18-20#!!! Hatchery buck Coho?

Me frown ... after limiting tonight at the hollow.

Here's the story. Went out today and got in the water around 2:00pm, Had 6 pinks sliced and diced in the boat by 3:15 right out off the village in the hollow. Started off with a double and my first fish was a 9# Pink Slimer. Bang the rest and since we have so much time and beer left, boogie out to Horseshoe to try to limit out on coho.

Get out there, trolll for an hour, get one pink, 7 fish in boat, back to south of the shipwreck. We have one punch left and get the second double of the day after having the gear down for no more than 5 minutes. My Buddy crackers off a little pinky while I fight what I am sure is a mid-sized chinookie. Get him to the boat and this piggy is a coho football. Definately a migratory fish and full of piss and vinegar. In the boat to release the double hookup in his snout and back into the water frown
I was heartbroken that I couldn't keep him. I felt like Steve Ng letting a 60# chinook free (LOL). All my willpower was used not to throw him in the cooler, you know what I mean.

Hopefully a sign of things to come. I figure it's good fish-god karma for me.

On the other hand, the pinks seem back in force. I was out Tuesday night and it was a ghost town. No fish anywhere, no boats hooking up, just plain dead. Tonight was the total opposite.

Sky-Guy,

Maybe I mis-read your post.

You had 7 pinks in the boat for two guys and then you caught the coho.

Why couldn't you keep it? Isn't the reg 4 salmon, no more than 2 coho. So why couldn't your 8th fish be the coho?

Am I missing something?

I had my four fish, and Andy had 1 left. We both still had rods down.
He caught a pink and I caught a silver. He killed his, so I had to let mine go so as not to exceed the 8 fish limit.

Well Sky-Guy, just be proud you landed a silver bigger than most have ever even seen before! Nice new avitar, by the way!

You are one upstanding guy! Most guys would have let one of your other fish find its way to the bottom of the sound to make room. I try to have a camera at all times for just this occasion!!

that had to hurt! There are definitly some nice ho's starting to show. I picked up about a 15# last week on slimer gear about 20' down... About everytime out we get at least one ho in the boat. I have been running only silver gear for a goow week now trying to bring that ratio up a little. I have even gone down below 100' and STILL getting slimed! frown

That's great news though. I think that this is going to be a great year for ho's!

PS. Always leave a spot on your card for a ho! 3 or 4 humps??? Is that really much of a difference?
