the browns point launch is private. you can get a membership/key to the gate for $45 per year if you are a local. or you could go south on marine view drive to Ole & Charlies marina, they have a hoist launch just like Des Moines for $20 per round trip. i dont know the minimum boat size they will launch, but it is a full size sling so they may not want to launch smaller boats. also, they are only open 0800-1700 so you can't go out early or stay out late.

Just a FYI. The redondo launch is only supposed to be closed thru Sept., and possibly into Oct (more than likely). The ramp will reopen with no floating dock. The parking lot will remain closed until at least late Dec. Boaters launching at the ramp will have to use street parking. When the lot reopens, everybody will be charged $5, not just trailers.

Yes charge them non-trailered parkers, Erndog likes that idea . The city of Des Moines should have been doing that from the get go.

Browns Point could very well be private. I've just seen boats launching there, never done it myself. As for when the boat launch at Redondo will open, the sign up on the parking lot fence (which was just put there the other day) states that the parking lot will be closed until January, and while it did not say anything about the opening date of the launch, it does list several planned improvements that involved the launch, such as a new floating breakwater, and improved launch surface. Even if they open the launch before the parking lot, there will be nowhere to park a trailer. Considering the amount of street parking, I would pretty much count on not being able to use the launch until both are open, unless you plan on someone driving your trailer back home while you're out and bringing it back when you come in. I live by Redondo, and drive by the dock every time I go to work. I'll let everyone know if there's any changes.

That's OK. Nobody launches at Redondo in January any way (except for me).
