I’ve been one of those drop-in visitors to this board, freeloading all of the info. and not giving back. We’ll those days are over. I’ve joined the party and pledge to share my successes and failures.

My plea is that I need a bit of specific advice. I’m taking a group out on Saturday, and I really, really want to get them into some fish –pinks, coho – it doesn’t matter. I had great fun with the humpys at the hollow, but I’m assume they are up the river by now. I keep the boat in Seattle, so I’m open to anything from Possession Point, shipwreck, Jeff Head, and around Elliot Bay. If you were me, where would you go, and what would you use? This could be one of my last trips of they year. Soccer season has started and the family has other ideas of how I should spend my Saturdays. Help me make the last trip count.

I promise to let you know how it goes. Thanks.

All of the spots you listed should produce Coho this Saturday. Get 'em up early as the daybreak bite is often the best.
Don't forget about the shipping lanes between Seattle and Whidbey too.
There are fish in now and with the rains it will do nothing but improve.
Good luck.

Make the drive up to Sekiu. Brine some plug cut herring, a 4 oz sinker, and troll about 2.5mph. Fish after fish. That is what I am doing this weekend.

Sekiu is a good bet, but if you don't have the time head to Edmonds....anywhere out front. Look for the tide rips. Last weekend 150+ fish were weighed in at the Edmonds Derby. Our boat (2 rods) caught 4 silvers and 1 pink. We started at 60' early in the morning then dropped to 90' later. White glow hootchie 30" behind a hotspot flasher. Don't forget the strip of herring.

Like you may have read in other threads, 4 mile rock and West Point offer just as good of fishing as anywhere else in the sound right now. When We had the Hallie-but moored in Ballard, we hit those areas every day for seasons on end and always caught alot of fish!

I was wondering what to brine the herring in. I've been doing the flasher and squid thing for a while now and would like to be able to fish fresh herring that will hold up on ice for a couple days. Any recipes would be much appreciated. Thanks, Dave cool

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Since I'm in Seattle I think I start at 4 mile rock, see how it goes and then maybe try Jeff Head. I'll let you know how it goes.

Dave, I just tried this brine reciepe on the Salmon U site http://www.salmonuniversity.com/ol_brining_herring.html
You can seach this board for a bunch of other suggestions.

wntrrun,

Everyone has there own way but you can simply plug cut your bait (or leave it whole) and place in store bought rock salt. It will easily last for a couple days if you keep it on ice. Watch to make sure it doesn't start to shrivel up to bad. I usually cut and salt mine the night before. They aren't real picky at Sekiu, but you need the firmness from the brine to keep them on if you are going to run bait.

Thanks waino and PD. I'm heading there this weekend and picking up my herring at Bud's in Edmonds. I don't really like the frozen herring and also don't want to drag a flasher and squid around all weekend. I'll give it a try. thumbs
