The apologies are for starting another thread on the subject while there are already four ongoing conversations in other threads...
...this is an effort to consolidate the conversation in one place, and if we can manage to keep the tone of discontent to a minimum, to get Bob to weigh in with his opinion and/or philosophy regarding the increased prevalence of NFR threads...
Here is my .02:
For me, I have to admit its disheartening to start a fishing related thread that most everyone can relate to and have nine people respond over the course of three days. Then to start a thread regarding a potential political candidate and have it get eighty responses in twenty four hours...
It might not surprise anyone to know that I belong to ALOT of BB's...all under the same moniker. Most of them are related to music...the parallels are such that its worth mentioning. The best sites IMO, are the ones that draw a variety of posters with common yet disparate interests and allow a free exchange of ideas on a variety of topics. This site fits that bill...
I don't think the topics are the problem at all and if that is where you are focusing the blame for current discontent you might be missing the mark...
...there has been far more long-lived animosity created in the FR threads than NFR, IMO and experience.
...you don't want NFR posts at the top of the board? Post an interesting FR thread and respond like crazy to every single one of them you can relate to ...DO NOT post on an NFR thread, period.
In this way the board will moderate itself up to the point people begin making personal attacks...which, IMO is what a moderator is for, not to tell people what they are and aren't allowed to talk about. Ultimately that's Bob's decision and at a certain point we all need to respect that.
Bob-
For the purposes of putting this subject to bed for another year, would you mind giving some general guidance as to your expectations in this regard?
