I was trying to break down my Lamaglass salmon pole when I found it was stuck. I can't take the pole apart. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have found tying one end to a tree and the other to a four wheel drive usually works. A 5 lb hammer usually works to beat them apart too. Hope this helps. Or try a hair dryer on the outer part to swell it a little if the WD40 doesn't work. Sorry couldn't resist.

Local - Separating a stuck rod is often difficult because one can't get a straight pull on the rod. Any twist puts pressure on the side making it difficult to pull them apart. Two people working together can often separate the rod easily - stand facing each other put one of your hands on the rod below the joint and the other above. Have your pattern do the same. The result will be straight pull and the rod may easily come apart.
Another trick if you are alone is to place the rod behind your knees with the joint in the center, place hands on opposite sides of the joints and use side pressure from your legs to apply a "straight" pull on the rod.
Neither method are 100% but I have used both many times successfully. I had one rod I could never get apart (glass) and a couple that the only way to separate them was to put the rod outside in a hard freeze (single digits are good). After the rod is throughly chilled quickly warm the outside of the large or female part of the joint with a hair dryer or warm water.
Good luck Smalma

Or, you could just hook a big old tule hen nook and snap your rod in half on the hookset. Not only will it "break" your rod down, but you'll get a new one as well! Oh wait, that's the Parker Method. Not for the faint of heart. ![laugh laugh](/forum/images/graemlins/default_dark/laugh.gif)

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Wipe your fingers across your forehead and rub that oily residue on the male portion of the rod before you put it together........this will reduce the tendency for the rod halves to stick together.

I'm with Smalma. Lay a bag of ice on the joint for 30 mins. Wipe with a towel. Then blow dry until surface is completly dry and hot. Pull and twist off. Don't put on any oil or lubes as it makes it hard to grip. If it doesn't come apart then repeat steps, just cut down on the blowdrying time. Has worked everytime for me.

Sorry 4Salt, but I've never busted an Allstart yet. Even if it was, just send it back to them and they will replace it for free.
I don't shop at Ted's any more, so that's not a worry.
That was a GLoomis IMX 1025. It was replaced by GLoomis for free.

Get help from another person and both of you have a damp rag. Grab the tip section with one rag, and the butt section with the other rag and twist in opposite directions. If this does not work, see 4x4 solution.

Cool Parker! My apologies. I guess I was hopin' that the j/k (just kidding) and the big grin smilies (again, just kidding?) would translate a little better. p.s. the "you" in my previous post was meant as a general reference to the membership of the board, and not specific to you.

To prevent future stickin', use parafin wax... (found at the local supermarket).

Cut a bicycle tube into two lengthy pieces. Wrap the tube tightly around the rod at both sides of the joint. Hold both wraps, with a slight twist and pull, the rod will seperate. Same theory as a larger handled screwdriver, just increasing the lever.

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU'RE GOING TO NEED TWO GUYS TO GET IT APART--AT LEAST YOU SHOULD TRY THAT BEFORE THE 4X4 METHOD.
I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ON A NEW LOOMIS A FEW YEARS, AND AN OLD TIMER HELPED ME GET IT APART--AND TOLD ME THAT IN FUTURE I SHOULD RUN MY FINGER ON THE CREST OF MY NOSE AND THEN APPLY THE OIL TO THE MALE END OF MY ROD BEFORE PUTTING IT TOGETHER--EVER SINCE I TOOK HIS ADVICE MY ROD HASN'T STUCK TOGETHER ONCE.

Dont you hate it when you're chucking spinners and the tip section comes off mid cast...
Feels like you just casted the whole rod out of your hand...
Man, I hate that...

My Dad used to always rub the end of the tip section on his scalp.
