No I did not take that photo but I saw it in person. Got that photo from the Everett Herald but there was not story with it.

Word around the Marina was some kid took his Dad's boat out at night and somehow ended up on the Jetty.

To me, it looks like the south end where you would speed up and turn westward to hit open water. Looks like he turned a little too soon! He had to have been doing at least 20kts to get that high on the breakwater.

He's doing fine.

After all, he has his fenders out!

Yeah, I got a good look at that thing this weekend. He turned out of the channel about 100 yards short of the opening.

I hope that never happens to me... I've been in and out of a few bays up in the San Juans that have exposed rocks at low tide that are submerged at high tide.

The kid took a pretty good beating. My friend is a Capt. in the fire dept at the base, and got there right after the Coast Guard. The kid has a gash that starts right between his eyes, and runs up over the top of his head and stops even with his ears. His skull was exposed all the way over. eek

The fire dept. was toned out about 8 PM,so it was getting dark when he made the the wrong turn. The tide was in a bit more than in the picture,so he had to be moving pretty fast to get that high on the jetty. All in all a bad day for that kid. frown

Looks like he had enough sence to drop an anchor too... or he tied up to the rocks...

wouldn't want it to float away...

Hope the kids ok... the gash on his head is probably the least of his worries...

Well They pulled it out this morning. It's not the first time someone has ended up on the rocks. Seen people up on the log rafts too! You can see how far up on those rocks the high water mark is, so those rocks dont stick up out of the water very high and in the dark if your sitting up high they can be very hard to see. People get so impatiant & that river mouth is one of the roughest waterways around with all those boats leaving all those wakes! Scariest time I've had in a long time was during the last derby weekend with all those small cartoppers running amongs all those cabin cruisers in the dark without any kind of lighting - YIKES WHATS THAT DARK SPOT? beathead

So how did the boy get the gash in his head? Did dad beat him for leaving the fenders out?

Grandpa2, If it was me and my dad owned the boat, I would of self inflicted it on myself just to keep the old man from busting my head open! Of course there is always your arse to beat on.

I swear that look's like a boat that I towed in the Friday before the derby. There where 3 guys that looked late teen's to early 20's in the boat. They had run out of gas and I towed them back to the fuel docks..
Would not surprise me at all if it was them..

Definitely a not the sharpest knives in the drawer...

I am about 80% sure that is the same boat???
