Those snagger had some guts. They also lacked brains. Glad to see those gamies out there though, and glad to see that it is publicized that they are enforcing some problematic areas. The officers seemed to stay pretty calm and cool during the bust, but it also seemed like they had to dumb down most of their conversations to maybe middle school levels so the people could understand that they broke the law. We need more officers like that, or maybe just more officers period. Thanks for sharing that with everyone

SS, thanks for posting that, 1 of the best story I've seen posted here.
I especially liked hearing those in-bred, hair-lips (no offense to you non in-bred, hair lips) claim "they didn't know the rules, their buddy brought them". Yeah, sure they didn't know. Hope the judge throws the book at them. laugh

great and interesting post...thanks

Watching that news clip was emotional for me. To anyone who works to enhance and preserve sports fishing and survival of our salmon runs things like this make your blood boil. We know it goes on all the time but seeing it hits home.

It also is i nteresting to me that no Seattle paper or tv station seems to do stories like this. Tacoma News Tribune and KATU channel 2 news...out of town news. There are many areas this fall where Chinook are trapped and easy prey for the neandrathal morons who snag...and leave garbage and waste. Maybe we should let the news stations know about this?

Big difference between that white trash and just some folks trying to feed their families.....

I remember the snag-fest that used to go on at the Washougal back in the late seventies but so many back then were having hard luck. Many of them were in their 60's or better.
Now it is just worthless POS that could care less about anything. Probably all go to work with bragging stories of the fish "They caught".

Scum, pure and simple. And the guy with the shorts is just one of an ever larger growing population of punk-ass.....
We need to have a snagging season on vermin like them..... maybe we could thin them out a bit.....

I just wish they had that kind of publicity and enforcement on the NF of the Lewis. Last time I was there, it was a shoulder to shoulder blatant snagfest up at the Meat Hole.

I hate snaggers.

i agree! you don't hear hunters that shoot deer out of season with a machine gun called hunters. they're called poachers

on a side not, i also hate being called fishers in the local paper. why not anglers? it's just kind of a strange word, like "persons"

I watched the video clip and had to laugh at how terrible it is for non tribal fishermen to snag fish and for some just to take the eggs and leave the carcasses. They are made out to be evil lowlife scum but when the tribal people do the same thing its ok and they are are enviromental stewarts. The double standard makes my sick. More rascism at its worst.

Again just in case you guys havent heard me say this before I am not a fricking snagger. I am just tired of the hypocracy, racism, and the double standard that go along with every snagger report, post, or article.

Lead thrower...I think he means that it's legal for tribal members to purposely snag fish in rivers. I don't remember the specifics but I do know that this is in the regs or the wdfw site somewhere.

At the risk of starting another stupid political discussion I have to ask you lead thrower.... You don't keep your eyes open much when in "Tribal" fishing waters do you now.....
I have been around many, many indians for years, was married into an indian family that was involved with treaty hunting/fishing, and also saw it up close for years of fishing/guiding on the Columbia River. It happens all the time, and the wanton waste of the resource by tribal members (per capita) is far worse than the general public. I had the Tribal Chief's son once ask me to buy Elk meat from him that was 3 years old. I asked him why he just did not eat it up. He then explained to me that he and a relative (Byron, a good friend of mine.. 1/8th indian) had just shot 8 Elk and he needed to get rid of the old stuff.... True story. When I called said Tribal chief to "report" the crime (I saw blasting a herd into oblivion a crime) he told me that his son was practicing his treaty rights and it was none of my business. I called Oregon F&G and they concurred that the tribal season was in effect from August until February and they did not have control over methods, bag limits, etc.....

Open your eyes. Tribal crimes/abuses happen, and no one is saying that all indians are bad people. Just that there ARE bad indians that nearly always get away with abuse of the system by waving treaty rights, and counting on the "saw-Dances-with-Wolves-one-too-many-times" crowd into thinking they can do no wrong.. Abuse of a resource is wrong no matter who or what you are. I just wish the media would cover a story like gill-nets left with rotting salmon in them, or the hundreds if not thousands of Clearwater native steelhead caught in gillnets (although they are "endangered"). But then I guess they would just get accused of running a racist story, or picking on the poor indians, or something to that effect if they did...

I am going to fish for salmon on the Umatilla river this next week, and on my trip there last weekend I saw the tribes gillnetting the hell out of the salmon and a group of white guys (married to indians I guess) selling them for $1 a pound at the marina.... I stopped in to check the fish out (like I was an interested buyer) and the fish were pretty warm in the cooler, (lying in water) and I pointed out that 2 of the fish I saw (probably 15-18lbs each) were native steelhead and I didn't think they could sell them. He said "Oh", and threw them into a different cooler in the back of his truck....

You have no idea what you are talking about (apparently you have not seen the abuse), you should not flame someone that obviously has..... IMHO.....

Sorry Bud, but it is more due to the fact that we have overidden mother nature and the scum that would die in a non-industrial society are now allowed to live and breed.......
Idiots like that are now in every corner of this country and state...... Mother nature would have taken care of them in days of yore...... Now, we do...... Maybe Planned Parenthood should use videos like this to convince some people not to reproduce...... er, never mind, they would probably just think they had just gotten to see a movie for free.....

OK I did not interpret Micros post correctly.

When he said “but when the tribal people do the same thing its ok and they are our environmental stewarts.”

I thought he was referring to the fact that people thought it was ethically ok for them to act this way and that he was inferring that public opinion was that when a Tribal member commits illegal acts people deemed it ok.

Micro I misinterpreted your post, my apologies for the flame.

MasterCaster, sorry you had to do all the typing because of my comment wink

No problem...... as you probably know by now I am FULL of typing! LOL

You must forgive my long post, but the tribal issues are a real sore spot for me (another thing you probably already know). Being married into an indian family and seeing the tribal goings on for 9 years opened my eyes to a lot........
Hopefully someday it will get better and we will all live together fairly.

Cheers!

I think one difference between these clowns and tribal fishers is that it ISN'T illegal for tribal fishers to snag.

Right, wrong, or otherwise....that's the fact. Only one group is breaking any law.

I think leaving the carcasses is a good thing. Now I'm not saying that these fish should be snagged, and I'm also not one to support snagging. But thouse carcasses are going to a good cause, kind of. Thouse rotting fish will add nutriens to the water that feed insect larva (nymphs), which inturn feed trout and smolts. Even the flesh feeds the trout and smolts. This is why there are no steelhead in Alaska, I believe. The Rainbow trout in Alaska don't need to go to the ocean to find more food as it comes to them in the form of millions of salmon. Our streams are "starving" of crutial nutrients because there are less salmon returning to our rivers. Also, most hatcheries don't put salmon carcasses back into the river systems so this also creats less nutriens for the trout and smolts. Sometimes when I keep a salmon, I fellet it on site and leave all the scraps in the river, giving the hungrey stream it nutrients. The Native Americans did this for thousands of years too, although not for the same reasons. Also I've heard of some places in Alaska and Canada that all the anglers on a river will leave the scraps in the river after filleting the fish. Just my $.02.

This probably should have been done under another thread but I did it here.

This egging the fish and leaving them to rot is NOT a good thing in Hood Canal, however, where the water is eutrophic and everything is dying of low DO. What do you think thousands of dead 12 pound chums do the nutrient load confused beathead

Spawn out,
You know more about the science involved with our fisheries than I do.I am getting way off track here but...Do you honestly believe that all of a sudden dead fish in the canal is a bad thing? This was happening at a level 10 time higher prior to the white man and the canal did just fine.I have to wonder about the low oxy level in the canalIs it a real "problem" or a normal occurence with drought years like we have had the last two years that the low oxy has suddenly apeared.I am just a bit weary...

I know nothing of those fish in the video but a guess based on the fact that the water is closed to fishing for kings tells me thatt he kings need to spawn not be stripped by a poacher.
