After the last two weeks of trying for my first silver I finally got lucky. I had been hitting the salt and sno for a couple of weeks with out any luck. I decided to try the lake after reading that they were open. Called my freind cliff in kenmore with a boat and took the squid from next door. we hit the lake at 7am and ran a short way out of kenmore to start trolling. we found a spot in 60 ft of water and sent the downriggers to 50 ft. With in a hour and a half we had 3 limits .
the smallest was 6 lbs and the biggest was about 14 lbs. After we had are limits we caught and released another 4 fish including two kings. All were caught on silver dogers and coyote spoons.... this was a lot better then saturday . The wife and i warned some rocks at the sno. while every one above us caught silvers. If I dont work tomorrow i maybe ggoing back.

Tom,

You might want to read page 17 and also page 21 of the State fishing regs. You may not continue to fish after you have caught and kept your limit.

From your post regarding snagging fish in the Slough.

I went out on the lake a week ago Sunday for a couple of hours in the afternoon and got some trout (released) on Coyotes (w/o a dodger), but no salmon, right out from Sand Point.

We got 4 and kept 3 on Saturday. Only fished until noon. Let got a couple nice big cutts, too. Why people keep those cutts is way beyond me. frown

I passed the infamous State Record Cutty Killer, Sok, out on the water. Naturally, I had to ask him what State Record Cutty tasted like. He told me it tasted a lot like Bald Eagle and Spotted Owl. laugh

Easy fishery. I was truly amazed at what most boats were using (except for Sok, as I long ago stopped being amazed at his antics), and laughed when the "herd" started following us around after boating some fish.

At least one boat saw what we were using and switched over, shortly to be rewarded with some fish.

The nets have been in, so the numbers might be low now out there.

Sounds promising in Lake WA. I may hit Big Samm this weekend to try for some kings.

Thanks, guys, glad to hear that the lake is producing. Should only get better in the next couple weeks just as long as the gillnetters give us some breathing room.

Parker,

did the "heard" hear about what you were using? Maybe it was a herd of fishermen who heard about what you were using or did they "scene" what they saw you using before anybody else had seen your gear?

:p :p :p :p :p :p

They scene my seekret loor. The herd didn't heard it on 16.

Just wish I had more of the originals. Too bad they are no longer made and are really hard to find now. frown

The Phat version of what we were using didn't do the trick.

sorry i did not know about no catch and release after your limiit. I dont see any thing wrong with c and r hatchery fish at the boat with a pair of pliars. I was using bar less hooks on all the coyote spoons. But if those are the rules o.k. by me. I will just candr after are 5th fish (3 people) then keep the last one (like I know which ones the last one is) . does some one want to let me in on the joke about cutts. We catch and eat a lot of cutts in lake washington. A bunch of boats with fisherman just like me came over and asked what we were using and at what depth, and you know what I TOLD THEM!!!!!!!!!. Chanaces are if you have a lure in your taclke box so do i . and if you can help me catch fish, maybe I can help you catch fish. secret spots and lures are for selfish old grumpy farts. (best bad langage I can get away with here) . The trick that was getting us fish more then others was herring oil on the lures , but dont tell anyone ok..If I did not re scent my secret coyote lure (green and white) every time i reset in the down rigger I would not get a bite. Oh one more thing the silver doger(side to side ) was out performing the flasher ( big circle ) 3 to 1. go figure . My buddy cliff went back to day at the same spot and time and got skunked, go figure. fishy

Yeah, thanks for the heads-up. I had forgot all about the Lake coho scene. I checked yesteday, and there were no nets near the mouth of the Sammamish Slough yet. I'll have to get out there when the weather allows. Last year a chartreuse splatter-back spoon worked well.

They netted the sh## out of Kenmore all day today!! I had planned to drop in the water ,but it will need a couple days to bounce back, if it does at all.

FYI:

All the cutthroat in Lake Washington are natural spawners. None planted since 1976, so be kind to these mostly resident fish. They seem to average around 17 to 18 inches and it is very comon to catch 'em in the mid 20's.

The spawn cycle is from October to March and it peaks between November and Janurary.
They are best eating when cought in the summer months, say July through September.

And please remember, once a daily limit is retained, you must stop fishing. Also, the "boat limit rule" does not apply in fresh waters.

I look forward to seeing you guys out there this winter. beer
