Okay. I was on the Snohomish River bank on Saturday. I talked to a guy that told me treble hooks were illegal on the river. I didn't have my regs with me, but I did not recall reading that before. I went home and re-read the regs looking for that specifically. I looked under special rules for the snohomish river and found only rules relating to what fish could be kept. I saw no restrictions about what type of tackle could be used.

I went fishing again on Sunday and talked to another person and he too thought that we could not use treble hooks. I have many spoons that have Treble hooks and I would just as soon not have to change the hook, but I need to know what the real story is.

WHO KNOWS? Can somebody help me out?

If the lure floats: Various plugs such as Hotshots, Kwikfish, Tadpollies, Wiggle Warts etc... Using the treble hooks is LEGAL.

If the lure DOES NOT float: Spoons, Spinners, Buzz Bombs etc... Trebles are ILLEGAL.

It's called the "non-buoyant lure" restriction.

4Salt is correct. Trebles are illegal on sinking lures. Your #4 Blue Fox can't be used on the Snohomish until December unless you replace the hook with a single. Sorry. frown

If when you are reading what you can keep it says in there "selective gear rules apply" or "non-boyant lure restriction in effect" go to the definitions at the beginning of the booklet. If "non-bouyant lure restriction is in effect", then if it sinks it can't have a treble only a single.

Just go get SINGLE Siwash hooks and put them on all of your spoons and spinners. The single hooks are larger, they get better/deeper hook sets, the fish can't pry them out as easily, and they will be legal any time any were.

Me three, just take off all the treble hooks, and put on singles. Then crush the barb down. Then you really are legal everywhere.

Me 4,TREBLE HOOKS SUCK!!!

1. They will snag up three times as much as a single
2.They very rarely get a corner of the mouth hook set, instead a little piece of flesh spelling a likely long line release with bigger fish.
3.They love to tangle with your line or leader on the cast, wasting valuable fishing time.
4.They are prone to pinning the mouth shut of your fish, keping it from breating, taking all the fight or sport out of the battle.
5.They are harder to pull out of your pet when he/she gets into your fishing gear! laugh [this was the original reason for swithcing 8 years ago!]

Well I found that "non-buoyant lure restriction" in the book. Must have looked at it for 15 minutes and not seen it until you guys told me what to look for. So I guess it is time to change out those hooks.

Thanks for the help. umbrella By the way.....Did you happen to notice the rain? Everyone I work with is disappointed. I can't understand them.

Now, I have never paid all that much interest in the "non-bouyant luer restriction" until now, as I have been using single hooks since the 70's. If only they snag less.

But I am curious, is a spin-n-glo a buoyant lure that can be fished with a treble? I remember seeing them rigged as a spinner, and never thought twice. That would imply that all corkies, aerofly and the like would be legal with a treble.

Good question! I imagine that the rig would be if they floated the hook on the surface? It would have to be a decent-sized spin-n-glow or a large corky to do that.
