I had a trip planned for this weekend and now I'm getting EXTREMELY nervous. I know we need the rain and all but do you think the Hoh will be puking mud by Saturday?

I wouldn't worry about it to much. The other rivers should be fishable by then if we keep getting rain. Lots of fish moving up. The quillayute is getting lots of silvers as well. Should be plenty of fish around for you. I might see you out here this weekend. Good luck.

You should be all over it. I bet it drops almost as fast as it went up. With another shot of rain on Wednesday and then dropping again just in time for the weekend. Could be banner...

Last year we sleighed em' with nickel/brass 50/50 spoons. We also did well drifting the pink worm with just a touch of lead. I'll probably stick with the worm. Kings love those things just as much as steelies in that river.....

I went to the mouth of the hoh last weekend with my boy. Some folks were catching em pretty good, I didn't have very good luck - am new to salmon fishing. Seems most were throwing spinners in bronze. I am NOT used to bouncing spinners off the bottom at all.

Sunday night right at tide there weren't very many fisherman left and a man across the stream was bouncing some eggs. He was hooking up like crazy - every 3rd cast or so. So I cut up some eggs that I cured last week and second cast got hit, went to give my boy the rod and forgot to set the hook - off he went.

Is the 50/50 you are talking of a dick nite lure? What size is best? Do you use weight?

I think that we will go back this weekend and throw everything in the box at em.

How do you fish the worm? Weight/no weight??

Any help you can give this newbie would be greatly appreciated.

It's pretty pukey right now ... may clean up if the heavy showers stop. At least we'll get some fish up her either way!

I think that we will head that direction any way - the Bogachiel looked like a river more "my size" so maybe with the rains some fish will be in there.

The WA regs are somewhat confusing to me and I definately want to stay legal so we carry them with us....you can fish below the 101 crossing on the Bog - right? Just not above it?

I have a buddy that orders them from B.C. (the spoons). Go to sportco..... They'll hook you up. As far as the worm is concerned, I drift fish it by sliding it all the way down my leader above a 2/0 hook so that only about 1/4 of an inch is hanging below the hook. You'll need a long sewing needle to do this or a worm threader. Procure makes worm threaders that come in 2packs for a couple of bucks. They work real well. Go to Bob's tips section for an illustrated "how to" section on the pink worm. I typically use a longer leader (4 - 5 ft.) and drift them with minimal pencil lead so that it hits bottom once every 10 feet or so.....
