Perhaps this will help some of the debates and arguments here if everyone is more or less on the same sheet of music; i.e., getting their information from better sources. Survey Compares Misleading Informants Just a thought.

The only time I really listen to the radio is to and from work. And then it's Bob Rivers in the morning and Steve Slayton in the afternoon. Good ol' classic rock. But the point I liked from that article was how the printed media was far more reliable and factual than the television news hyping everything for ratings. I've even noticed watching football lately that every network has added women "sportscasters" to the sidelines. It's obviously only to draw in the younger male demographics, but I find it distracting. I'd rather they keep the sportscasting to the old players and coaches who know the game inside out.

Interesting and misleading in it's own right... The Hearst Corp and CNN are partners... Oh, along with NBC and ABC Coincidence? Maybe Times owners I think that all the news channels have an agenda and are selling to 'their' audience. I try to look at many different source and develop my own opinion... It's all about marketing and ad time anyway...

Certainly not surprising. I listen, watch, and read all of those sources and there is no question there are subtle and not so subtle biases that are present with all of them. Fox News is the whipping boy of the left and NPR of the right. In the case of Iraq, NPR clearly has done a better job. Other stories, I think we would get different results.

It's no surprise to me. NPR is almost always the best U.S. source for unbaised news. (BBC is pretty good for international news.) I think that's why the knuckledraggers hate NPR so much. They want only the "facts'' as presented by an Amreicon icon like Rush - I can't hear you cuz the drugs ruined my hearing - Limbaugh. Huh?

Grandpa: In answer to your question, which I suspect was at least somewhat rhetorical; I suspect I am smarter than some and not as smart as some. But if you took the time to read the link you would see that the NPR reporting, on the issue under discussion, was considerably more accurate than the other sources. I would like to listen to the least biased source I can, not necessarily the one that comports with all of my preconceived notions.
I have listened to NPR, off and on, for years and am often amazed by how even handed they are. Many times I have heard them supporting right wing positions and debunking some liberal beliefs. That's why I am so amazed that the true believers on the right hate NPR. I can’t speak for you, but there are some right-wingers who would rather hear what they believe than the truth. I believe they are among the most vocal critics of NPR.

Grandpa: You keep saying that I must consider myself to be especially smart. I sure never said that. I dunno where ytou get that, but if you keep saying it pretty soon maybe I will beleive it.
Gosh, I don't think you are stupid, just cuz we disagree on some political issues. I think folks can be pretty dang bright and still disagree with me. Do you suppose anyone who disagrees with you could possibly be nearly as bright as you?

Grandpa:
What scares me is I'm not sure you are kidding!
You were quick to accuse me of intellectual arrogance because I voiced my opinion regarding bias in the media. Then, you announce that you know bias when you see it. I suspect you actually do feel you are smarter than the rest of us. You could be, but your logic is fatally flawed. Too funny. I suspect you are one of those who are seldom in doubt but often wrong. Have a nice day. I’m off to Canada to catch some fish. I know I’m smarter than them!
