The docks extend to the end of the pier.



I hope the space between the docks is going to be a little wider (barely two boats wide).

Biatchen, that looks great. Tax dollars well spent! I have seen more damage done at this ramp than any other in the state. There's that big ole pile of rocks to the left of the ramp. It's chewed up lots of boats. Did they put a second dock in to keep boats off the rocks?The ramp is actually set up great and works very effciently when there's no chuckleheads around, but this is not the place to launch if you dont know what your doing. It can get a good chop going. I wonder if the 2 docks will help with the swells?

If you CAN park, you'll likley be blocked in by the time you return. Does anyone know if they plan to add any parking? I know they were working on keeping the non-boating traffic out of the trailer spaces.

Hairlipangler,From what I have heard the parking lot will be for trailer combos only and lot across the street for cars.

The rocks where removed the last I saw.

And also a movable floating breakwater. (should piss the dock fisherman off)

Now if only they could put some floating pilings out there a ways to keep the sea weed from floating into the launch area.

It says there will be a floating breakwater, that should help with the wave action.

Talked with Des Moines Marina yesterday. I was told that because they are focusing more on the parking lot, noone asked when the ramp would be open for use (with out the floats of coarse). The floating breakwater will be installed at a later date (possibly mid-Nov.), which will shut the ramp done for several days.
I would suggest that the more people who call and ask about the reopening of the ramp, the sooner it will become available. You can reach the resident engineer(I believe his name is Joe) at the Des Moines Marina @206-824-5700. My exxperience with construction projects is that usually without a little coaxing, things will drag out forever.

Looks great. I really find that spot convenient.

But, Too bad the dumb a**es can't be upgraded! Think lunch time parking IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ramp, then they get offended when I ask them to move. "I paid five bucks to use this BOAT ramp, now scoot" I got instant stink face! Not to mention the fifteen minute launch folks, who load their crap for the boat, ON THE RAMP, then tie-up in the way at the water line, blocking the ramp for the next guy! Perhaps we should start a ramp class?
Three Rules for Ramps: 1) Load your crap in the lot (undo straps too). 2) Get in and out, quickly. 3) Tie-up at the farthest end of the dock!
I'm not cynical, just exasperated by the oblivious.....

I think "oblivious" is the right word. I have never had a genuine "run-in" with anybody at a launch because I tend to think that most folks don't know any better and are willing to learn if approached in the right manner.

As for people who are obviously just being jerks, I just leave them alone--no amount of talking is going to get them to do things right.

My two cents--and worth every penny!

AND if you have a partner with you, instruct him to move your boat out farther along the dock as boats behind you leave, freeing up the close spots for others to launch. If by yourself, some leeway will be given!

How about: dont pull into the staging spot untill your READY to launch. Try to launch without holding anyone up. It's impressive when everybody does it right. Been there several mornings real early with a ton of boats. It's a great start to your day when it goes smooth. It's not if it does'nt . I dont know if approaching one of you crusty ole fisherman at 5:30AM, to point out a "launch etiquite" problem. I'm sure i'd get my head bit off. But I do keep my eyes open at Redondo and always try to help out if someone needs it. AND THEY HAVE! Face it, with the chop, the number of boats and trailers, a steep ramp, debris, and two lanes of public traffic going through the ramp, it's an exiting place with lots of potential for accidents. I agree, patience is a must!

You got it pal. I have probably been helped by you once or twice! (Thanks!) I always launch solo and sometimes a nice fella (like you) will grab my boat etc. Patience and tact are ALWAYS a main consideration when I'm at Redondo. My point was that after five trips back to the car by Mom and Dad, I am no longer being patient, I'm being abused. If A single guy can back in, untie from a trailer, launch (usually the beach is where I put it) and pull out within two-three minutes, even in the chop (Surf!?) then Mom and Dad can too.
Also, when it works right and we are all on the same page it is a beautiful dance of trailers, boats and cool folks.
I too am leary of approaching people about mis-ettiquette, but will occasionally offer friendly assistance and gently delivered advice (I never start arguements or act aggressive; If rebuked I smile and walk away!). Good point about the oblivious (whoever that was that said that) Many people are unconsciously incompetent, and it is quite an art to approach them, offer tactful advice and assistance, and not offend. Anyone can yell "hurry up dummy". We can all develop an ability to be nice. As a great fire chief once said "You don't HAVE to be nice; Just ACT like you are!

Personally, I'm glad there are fellas like you guys out there. Solace is provided when I think the next trailer might be piloted by considerate and interesting people.
