I haven't been down that way in a while but I thought that a store was supposed to open this last summer.... Was I mistaken?

Well… about a year and a half ago I called both Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shop inquiring as to future store development. Basically the response was the same from both Stores.

“We will open a retail store in a new location only when we have a curtain dollar value of catalogue orders. This assures that there is enough customer base in an region.”

I then asked if this was based on a specific type of gear sales, i.e. bass equipment, archery, etc. They said, “No it is the amount of total sales, cumulative.”

So… It may be a while before we get one of these stores in the area, because we have a different fishing and hunting demographics.

I also am really bummed about no store out this way… I was in Broken Arrow (by Tulsa), Oklahoma for a son’s baseball tournament and told the wife that on the day break I was driving to Mecca (Bass Pro Shop World Headquarters). She said Ok and she wanted to come along to see what all the hubbub is about. It is about 200 miles one way, so off we went… we got there and we only had about 2 hours to walk around before they closed. She said she now understood and that maybe I should plan a vacation for myself back so that I could spend all day or 2 just drooling… I have since had the family to the Bass Pro in Orlando Fl. and Dallas Tx.

I told the wife that I just needed to spend the money ordering from both stores instead of traveling to all the stores…

Opening a store in this state might be fine for those who live very close to it, but all it means to me is paying shipping AND sales tax. No thanks.
