Thanks to fellow PP member Rick at Mercer Marine, I have my 18HP- 1961 back in good running condtion motor wise, but in the process it was determined that the lower unit is going out.

If anyone has a dead 18 HP Evenrude motor, that I can get a functioning lower unit from please contact me. It can also be a Johnson 20HP in the same vintage, which is 1957-1973.

It is probably not work fixing, but I'd like to try.

I'm in Kirkland so anywhere between Tacoma and Mount Vernon would work for me.

Why not just rebuild it

Tom's Outboards in Olympia. He has a pretty good supply of old parts in his bone yard. He rebuilt my 1958 Johnson 35hp Big Twin and it started on the first pull, every time.

Call Hollywood boats in Tacoma, ask for Gordy, He can tell you if he has what you are looking for.

There used to be an old bone yard up north... I'm thinking it was up by past marysville??? maybe Mt Vernon??? It used to be a good place to find used outboard parts. I dont know the name of it, but someone here might.

I have a 73 Johnson 6 sitting in my basment. I think the water pump is out.

I have a 72 18 horse completly rebuilt.New mag points etc.The lower end was gone through with new berrings and seals.Been in the garage since.It only cost me I believe 275 for the lower work.I got a deal but you might want to look into having it rebuilt.[Bleeeeep!] I might even sell for a price.Havent put the boat in the water as my buddy got a lund with a four stroke that works better for chasing cuttys and he goes several times a week.send me a personal message if you want to talk.

I've had it since the early 70's when I got my first jet motor.

Not sure of the year but it's available for a fellow pp person.

dogfish: you wouldn't happen to be the guy who talked to me at hicks lake a month ago or so would you? there was a guy who was pulling an old boat out, and he asked me what year my evinrude was. i told him "1988", then he said "1958 here". he had a pretty nice antique

Thanks everyone, the estimate to have a rebuild was way up there, about !000 dollars, which lead me to looking for a dead Evinrude 18 HP motor circa 1957-1973 with a good lower unit. A 20HP Johnson from the same era will also work.

FP, wish that 25 horse of yours was a 18.

Chum Man, that wasn't me, but was the boat a turquoise 1968 14 foot Pacific Mariner with a blue Johnson 35 hp Big Twin, plexiglass windshield, and the boat might have been named BAWB? If so that was my old boat. It was sold to a guy in the Olympia area many years ago. Great motor, good little boat, piece of [Bleeeeep!] trailer.
