I did a search for curing prawns or coon shrimp and came up pretty much blank. Anyone got some cures they might want to share?

I found this one…..What is the purpose of the Alcohol??????????????????

Shrimp Cure From Fear No Fish

1st) Start out with about a quart of coon
striped shrimp.
2nd) Add two bottles of Beau macs instant
dye.
3rd) Add two scoops of sure glow to make
em a little darker.
4th) Add 1/4 bottle Pro cure shrimp and
prawn oil
5th) Add 1/4 bottle Pro cure garlic plus.
6th) Add 1/4 bottle Pro cure kenai
cocktail.
7th) Add 1-2 oz 200 proof ethyl alcohol.
8th) Add 1/2 cup sea salt
9th) Add drippings from egg cure
10th) For a change add some garlic
slamola powder to the mix.
324 steelhead the last 2 years can't be
wrong. 5 steelies over 20 pounds this
year at McNary! 4 Hatchery, 1 Native

The ethyl alcohol is tough to get. I work in a lab. 70% Isopropyl alcohol will work.

Holy cow! that's a lot of steelhead!
I've always simply soaked them in the juice left behind by the egg cure for a day in the fridge. They sure smell funky but the springers can't resist em'. I've never had great luck with them for steelhead though.

I buy the 51-60 count raw prawn tails , pop the shells of. For summerrun I just mix water and Procure and for winterrun I will add a little salt and anise extract to the solution. I let them soak about 30min. stirring a couple of times. Then drain for a hour and package a dozen per bag and freeeze. This does'nt cure them ,they still only last about 5 days in the fridge. But I refreeze them all the time and they still work just fine. I just take a few out of the freezer the day before , what I don't use goes back in the freezer for the next trip. The best thing is I always have bait ready to go and they are cheaper and much more durrable then sandsrimp. As for catching fish I've done great with them,I havn't bought sandshrimp in a number of years.

Leadthrower,
That is the real deal. Alcohol does act as a scent disperser. Wouldn't try to drink it though!
43 steelies so far this year and the season is just starting to roll. Another addition I am using is Pautzkes Krill scent. GO FOR THE KRILL! Back out tonight to play with the steelies in the freezing cold at McNary. thumbs

How has the daytime bobber show been? Are you getting some of the big snake fish or a lot of the A runs?

My buddy got a 42.5 incher, I got a 38 and a 36.5 incher so far. When the weather finally decided to turn, it sure didn't take long to get cold. It didn't help having one of the warmest Septembers ever. beer
Daytime has been good but I love the nights!

How long do you generally allow the prawns to soak in this solution?

Chumman,
I got it off Pautzkes web site.

Leadthrower,
I store my coon striped shrimp in the solution all season. I started catching steelies off of last years batch until I ran out and made more this year. Heck they are just stupid trout. Anything that would strike a blinking red lure has to be stupid. laugh

Excellent that makes it so easy then because you do not have to worry about getting it out like you do eggs at the proper time.

Leadthrower,
We flatline them at 40 pulls. We use a chunk of prawn on the front treble, positioned in a way so it doesn't cause the lighted kwicky or vortex to track to the side. Last night the wolfman showed up twice. No steelies but I landed two big Chinookies showing all their colors and teeth. One was a 20 minute fight and the other took 15 minutes. Left bicep feeling it this morning. eek beer
