There is a big cottonwood tree across the Satsop about 2 miles below Cook Creek. Portage is required unless you get really lucky and get over it without flipping, like I did. I was fishing alone, so I couldnt portage the tree, as it went a ways up the bank and I have a bad back. Lucky for me and my dog moose, we were able to barely slide over it and make it to the ramp at dark. it was sticking up about 8 inches out of the water on Saturday, we rammed it nose first them jumped up and down to get over it, very lucky.. beer
as for fishing,,,no silvers at all confused
lots of fiesty chums and a few kings, same report from others, silvers were a no show, what up with that?
hope that info helps out someone from getting stuck or worse.

No problem mooch, isn't that what the PP board is for, to help out others stay safe and have some fun. I had actully heard about the tree from this board but figured that It would be ok, yeah, it was ok , but barely... mad
Some times the local guides are know for chain saws in the boat, my wife told me I better get one. :p This tree was big though, so a big saw would be needed laugh , I think this type of activity might be however "illegal" as Large woody debris "LWD", is a huge benefit to the river sytems. I will bring a freind next time out, but I do like rowing by myself though, as its soooo easy.... smile

That should keep some sleds out of the upper river.

larryb,

It's in that general vicinity. We got out of the boat and lift it up and over saturday. Didn't strain a uterus too bad and were on our way. I would not advise trying to row over it as the lowest spot is in deeper water and there is somewhat of a back current. Just stay left looking downriver and lift the boat over and it's not that big a deal at current height.........higher water would be a different story.

my new buddy cameron from this board fished the satsop friday and the solduc saturday. i think cameron and the boys have an appreciation for my rowing abilities. we rowed right into that old log stopped about midship, leaned forward and slid down the other side.
