WashingtonLakes.com Logo Contest

My wife recently was looking at the web site and had this comment - "can't you change the logo - it looks drab.". Ouch. Not being a graphic design artist and not having much artistic expertise I figured why should I struggle designing a new logo? So - New Contest Idea!
I am calling on readers that have creativity and graphic design skills to come up with a new logo for WashingtonLakes.com. You can pull any picture off the site that you think could be incorporated into a new logo. I'd like the dimensions to stay close to what is on the top of the page currently (525 by 70 pixels). It doesn't have to be square, in fact I've thought a non-square logo would look great.
Anyone that submits an entree will win a prize of some type. The winner will receive $50 plus various tackle gear and free stuff. It'll be worth the effort!
I will run this contest through the end of the year. Send your file attachments to:

LogoContest@washingtonlakes.com

I'm looking forward to your submissions. Thanks for helping me out.
Mike

Considering Graphic Design is 60+ an hour, I guess it is a good deal for you to pick and choose.

Sorry, but the Graphics industry and Printing is suffering in this state, so it amazes me anyone
would take money away from the designers, cause you don't wanna pay the price!!!

Alot of hard work, time, and money goes into the software required to get a professional image, and the talent.

Maybe you should donate the money to the website, since you are advertising here!! or at least offer, a portion.

Not trying to be rude, but have you priced out the cost of this? It ain't cheap!

Well Woodsy,

I see that your profile says that you’re a "printer" so we can understand how you may feel "threaten". But Mike has been a long time contributor to this board and I for one think that he has "earned his keep"!

So if anyone does have the talent and skills to help him out….I say go for it!

Your mentality appears to be the same as that of the commercial fishermen who think that everybody owes them something. I could be wrong, but that is the impression that you have given to me. Mike has done a lot to help fishermen out, and personally, I think you owe him an apology!

That's my thoughts on your comments, so you can take it anyway you want to!

Mike has "walked the talk" on this board, and I respect him for that. Can you say the same about yourself? If so, please give me a few examples of how you have "walked the talk"!

Ouch!

Thanks CFM for your words of support. I'll see you on the garbage line. wink

Woodsy Wayne,

I think you missed the point by about 100%. I'm not interested in professional graphic artists sending me their work - unless they felt so inclined. This is for guys who sit in front of their computers and have some talents that they'd like to share. Since I started working on WL.com six years ago I've always made a point of running contests and finding ways to give back to the readers that have contributed so much to the site.

I've really enjoyed running WL.com and it has been my privledge and honor to have met many nice anglers who have helped build the site into a valuable resource for lake fishing. I've always thought of it as an online community for anglers and as such I often run contests to add content to the site. I also can't pay writers to write the articles that readers submit. Should I not run contests asking for submission of articles and pictures either?

FYI, I don't advertise on Bob's site. He has been generous enough to let me share space on his forum because he felt that our sites were a good match in terms of river and lake fishing. By linking together we bring two communities of anglers together. It's a good deal for both of us.

I'm really not interested in getting into a debate about this. Life is way to short. Have a nice day.

If either of you would have taken the time to "think" before you posted those posts, you wouldn't be looking so foolish now! At lease Woodsy has figured it out…all though it be a little late! beathead

AkKings, you can say all that you want to about me… but please don't support Woodsy unjustified attack on Mikes request just to slam me!

Talk about taking it personally CF, I beleive it was you that jumped in "defense" mode.
It had nothing to do with you from the beginning.

Take Mike s advice, it ain't worth arguing about, and Have a Nice Day, maybe you missed that part. (I did'nt), it made sense too me!

Sounds like you are the one taking it personally to me!!

But......Once again I don't care what you think.

If I "figured it out" too late, at least I did indeed figure it out!!

Looks like you have not yet!!

I am done with this one.....take it to email CF, If your problem with me needs resolve.

Gulp... can I put this thread back on topic? Here's a picture I'd love to see incorporated into a banner. My kids in a classic "fish on" pose.

2 Boys...double trouble laugh laugh

Great looking kids Mike thumbs

That would look really neat if your kids could be looking up at a rainbow and having one kid with his line hooked to it, and have the other kid netting a fish in the water where the rainbow inters the water!

Just a thought! laugh

I emailed you a logo, Mike. I adjusted the size a little so the pictures could be integrated with a little more detail. It was just a quick version to give you some food for thought. Let me know what you like or don't like.

Thank you Woodsy. I got it along with several others. I will be posting the results the end at the end of the contest. No need to send me the original and no need to send more variations.

Mike,

PLaying with some ideas on Photoshop for you. I have nothing fancy because I just like to play with the program.

My question before I go on and submit is
"Featuring readers lake and saltwater fishing reports" a longlasting slogan for your site? Can the wording be changed or is that the wording you want incorporated?
