Is the Skagit fishable above Rockport? I see that it is running pretty high. I make my annual trip up there for Chum over Thanksgiving but wondered if it is fishabke. Thanks in advance.

Fished from Rockport to the Cascade river today. Snow, rain, sun all the usual. Today the river was a milky green with about 2 feet of visability. For the day I caught some stale coho, 4 dollies, 2 steelhead jacks, and enough chum to make my arm hurt for a week. The doggies are just beginning to show in catchable numbers at Swift creek. It's probably worth the trip over, but you need too be above the Baker and the Sauk. Both are still pumping mud.

Thanks for the info. I plan on hitting above the Sauk on Thursday and Saturday. Sounds like the Chum are showing up late. They are usually stacked real thick by now. Are they in descent shape? I have always wanted to take on ehome and smoke it, but they have always been in pretty bad shape by Thanksgiving. Thanks again.

What did the launches look like up there? They were mud holes the last time I was in the area.

without anybody giving up any secrets, When does the steelhead fishing really start on the Skagit? Is it mostly hatchery fish in december/january? and would there be catchable numbers of fish in the river in the next couple of weeks? I am bored up here with the fall "thin belly" coho season ending and our steelhead season is still a few weeks away

CHum Fishing was slow for me. I was not even able to get to the bar at Swift Creek due to high water on Saturday. My buddy fished the bar on Friday and hooked several. I came through Arlington and Darrington and did not notice what the boat launches looked like. River was very high Saturday.

I went all the way up saturday, the ramps are still most rocked it, its hard enough to back down on but the run off has put large ruts in the way so the launches are AFU, maybe 4 wheel drives on a few, the sauk was muddy the skagit above the cascade was better....DJ
