Howdy Fishon,

The ramp is improving, and from what I hear launching smaller sleds seems to be OK there.

Rockport (Howard Miller) is probably the best bet right now on the Skagit if you have a bigger sled. 4 WD is a must right now, with the snow on the ground. The ramp is slick! (I know as I fell on me arse there about an hour ago!)

Since I don't have a sled (yet!) I fish the banks around the Howard Miller, and did OK for silvers this year, but yet to even set a hook on a steelhead. (which makes me fish even harder!)

A couple of the boats that came in this evening had decent hatchery steelhead, and there are still a few decent, bright silvers coming through. Lots of Dolly's this year.

John's Guide Service maintains a website that lists the conditions of the upriver ramps. You can see it at http://www.johns-guide-service.com/Fishingreports.html .

BTW, more snow coming tomorrow night. If you have 4WD you might be OK on those ramps, but if not I would reconsider.

There ya go, fish and ramp report all in one..:-)

Mike B

p.s. Fished Howard Miller for 4 hrs. today and came up empty. Water is crystal clear. Drifted jig(s) and threw Vibrax and spoons.

Good deal. If you launch at HMSP keep your eye out for a short, camo coated round fellow fishing the bank. I'll likely be there in the afternoon if the dam is running on the Baker.

Seems they will close it down for a couple days and the water will get that beautiful clear green, then, they open the gates again (raising the water level downstream from the Baker by about 2') and it muddies up. My place is just about 1/4 mile downriver (s. side) from where the Baker hits the Skagit. When that happensI head for HM as it is the next best spot I know.

Good luck and be safe!

Mike

well it was a chore gettin on water. we had to thaw steerin cable with a propane torch. then the batteries were to cold. so we had to jump it. but we made it. first drift we hit a 3# dollie. no steelies but dollie kept us busy all day. i had one on and to the boat but it got off with a little help from buddy lol. it was close to 8#s. most were between 3-5#s. my buddies 7 yr old out fished us today he is a boondoggin machine. got his first fish and he was hooked. it was freekin cold up there today and he never complained once. while his dad was huggin heater we was reelin em in. thanks again for replies Mike.
