I won every size and color of Puffballs in the raffle here last year . When I got them I tossed them in the box as just another ho hum. Then fishing an Okanogan lake last June my son was playing with one and tossed it over board. The trout attacked it on the surface like sharks, rolling and fighting each other for it. We stopped trolling and put the puff balls on and had limits of 2 lbto 4 lb trout in 20 minutes. Fishing was slow for everyone else and we just kept bringing in limits everyday for a week. The size and color used would change with the time of day or even with the cloud cover. I plan to try them in place of corkies this year for stellhead. Anyone else use them? Results

I used to use them many years ago with success. Then they stopped making them so I started tying yarn balls which was a pain but still worked well. I still have some yarn balls tied up but when I run out I will be going back to puff balls. I like to use them solo in low and clear water. Steelhead sort of chew on them like my pup with her favorite chew toy!

do you float the puff balls on the surface or can you also submerge them with a egg sinker or pencil lead?

Sol, I think he was referring to how they are used for trout on the lake...not for steelhead.

I should have said we fished them suspended off the bottom in the lake and plan to fish them just like corkies in the river. We did not fish them on the surface.
