I am looking for som help on what is a good drift for the Hump? The only place I know to put a boat in is at the 101 bridge. So from there where are the take outs? I looked at the wildlife page, and it looks like there is a take out about 7 miles down off the walker rd? It also seemed like there were a couple others down that way, but I am not sure how to get tohem? And is that a good place to start from? Thanks in advance

The normal drift is from stevens creek to raynvans.It can be long @ times.Good luck,

I'm not 100% sure but I thought last year they closed off the 101 launch with a big dirt berm. Any way to get around it?

There is a boat launch just a short ways downstream of the 101 bridge at the old trestle. This is less than a mile upstream of Stevens Creek hatchery. The popular float used to be from there downstream to Moody Road, but that was closed off a couple years ago unfortunately. Now you have to continue all the way to Ryn Van bar, which makes for a pretty long drift. These used to make two separate day long floats. The increased length requires that you really high grade the water you fish, or you won't make it to Ryn Van's by dark. You can also make a fairly short drift from Ryn Van down to Bethel, which is a really rough take out (read: have a long line for your winch). There is a good boat ramp a couple miles downstream of Bethel, but the river becomes really slow and tanky, and I've never gone that far.

Losing the Moody Road access has really complicated drifting the Humptulips River.

Well regardless of spelling, Salmo g. is correct. I called and talked to a guy at the hatchery there and he told me the same thing that salmo g. wrote. He said the launches are being shut down due to garbage dumping. He said the drift to Ryn Vans is a long one.

I'm not sure WHAT the spelling is..........but I've seen it spelled about seventeen different ways. I know that you go past Reynvaan road in Central Park on your way to the Hump........but whether that's the same spelling..........???

You go thru town on the way to the Hump? I thought I was the last one to learn it's shorter in time and distance to take the Wynoochee/Wishkah cutoff. Of course, sometimes it's necessary to come thru town on the way home to get dinner.

On an icy morning, I tend to stick to major thoroghfares.........and getting coffee and having a sh!t can on the way is another benefit of going through town.

Sometimes I don't feel the need to lay cable until I'm past Monte Square.........so I'd rather lay cable in Hoquiam or Aberdeen than in the woods.

I take the Wishkah cutoff on the way home though.

Lay cable? That is a new one for me... LMAO

I would suggest that you go with a guide like myself before doing it your first time on your own. It is a long drift and the river is very finicky this time of year. if it has rained at all or for any length of time it tends to go south quickly which means your day goes with it because of the extended drift.

CAN YOU TELL ME HOW FAR IN DRIVING MILES IT IS BETWEEN THE LAUNCH BELOW THE TRESSEL TO RYANVANS OR HOW ABOUT RIVER MILES?
HOW ABOUT HOW LONG IN FLOAT TIME IF YOU DID NOT STOP?
AND NOW CAN YOU COMPARE THIS TO ANOTHER DRIFT, LIKE LETS SAY THE WYNOOCHEE 7400 RD TO WHITE BRIDGE?

It's not as long as the 7400 to White drift.The 7400 to white is like 12 miles and I think the tresle to reynvann's is like 8 miles.Good luck,

As best I can read the WDFW river map, the trestle is at River Mile 23.1 and Reynvaan bar is at RM 14.6. I used to float from Moody's to Reynvaan, and thought that made a nice day. My friend has done the longer drift, and he says you have to pass up a lot of nice water to drift it on a winter's day.

Thanks for the reply. That really helps. I remember the first time I floated 7400 down to white bridge and was so afraid I wouldn't make it by dark, just means you share the oars and yes miss spending a lot of time on good water.
