I was wondering what everyone’s favorite scent is for winter steelhead? Mine is a toss up between Dr. juice and Craw/Anise. Does the brand of the scent matter, are some better than others? Although the famous Banana Oil works real well when the fish start cramping up. Thanks in advance.....Ross

Anise is what I use but I have also caught fish using salmon egg and shrimp scents. I prefer anise because when it gets on your fingers/cloaths/reel/vest/wadder/anything you touch it dose not smell bad. But it's like Bustinbug said, the type usually dose not matter buy covering up your scent dose.

I carry an assortment of scents but have no real favorite. I just keep trying a different one until something bites or I run out of time.

The egg crust and juice covering my fingers is usually enough scent. It also adds exceptional flavor to my lip fatties.

'Sup, Lunch Time?
Since I use eggs 90% of the time, I don't really use any scent. If I use jigs or worms, then I pretty much stick to Smelly Jelly, either shrimp or egg/shrimp. I usually choose which one by which one I randomly grab out of my vest pocket.
As noted above, I think it's more important just to cover up your human scent than anything else. Salmon, on the other hand, may prefer a certain scent at certain times.
Fish on...
Todd

Mike's Shrimp Gel all the way for me! Started using scents heavily last year while fishing the Hood River in Oregon and haven't gone fishin without a bottle since. Even started experimenting with scents for salmon and halibut in the salt. Can't keep the butts off the line with a squirt of lunker lotion in the herring scent. I also agree with BustinBig and FishingJunky15 in that the scent or the brand of scent does not matter as long as it covers ur human scent up. I have used all different types of scents and had success, but we all have a favorite one. I like to rub some scent on everything on my drift gear including my lead and leader. This puts a nice stinky oily slick in the water and does the trick. Fish on!!!

Scent or no scent, I don't think it matters much. I catch as much fish without scent.

I find Common Sense works best for me when steelheading. Anyone know where I could pick some up?

Berkley used to make a trout formula that worked really well on steelhead but I haven't seen it on the shelves in years.

You won't believe this Jerry, but it smells just like chicken.
Man, I'm really having a hard time finding this stuff and it's driving me nuts. My wife's no help either, she just keeps mumbling something about a glue store. Sure hope I find some soon though, cause she's been threatening to chuck my laundry if I don't stop using this tuna fish oil. I quess I kinda thought this Chicken Of The Sea tuna would smell more like chicken than it does. Just no substitute for the real thang, uh Jer?
