Here's one for the books.

I took a fishing buddy down the nooch on day one of a three day trip and he nails an 18-pound HATCHERY steelhead! On day two we float the hump and he sticks it to a 19-pound HATCHERY steelhead! What are the odds? I won't mention the 17-pound wild buck he got on the Sol Duc on day three.

I've seen hatchery fish this size come off the Salmon River, Cook Creek or perhaps even the Cowlitz, but not other rivers: Much less by the same fisherman on consecutive days.

Drift fishing on day one, float fishing on day two and side drifting on day three. The common denominator on all three days was having a parter in the bow on an extreme run of good luck [Enjoy it while it lasts, Steve].

It's worth noting that the Wynooche is planted with stock native to the river, many of which were big. Not sure if the Hump is still planted with native stock, but I know the TU chapter down there worked with the state on native programs on both rivers, plus the Satsop, back in the late 70s, early 80s.
