A friend call and asked me what do steelhead do when the river freezes. She lives by the Sandy River about 40 miles east of Portland.

They drink lot's of hot cocoa.

I have a fish pond in my backyard and, although it's only goldfish and Koi, I'm told that they've been known to be frozen solid in ice and come out of it fine. They must go into some sort of hibernation.

Check out the last STS-in Ontario they drill a hole, then with fishing pole stick a kwikie down into the hole and free spool it. Then onto different tactics. But, you better have 3-4ft of ice if you plan on that one.

We use to fish the St. Croix river in MinnesNowta growing up der. Drive out on the river with the other 200 cars/trucks, snowmobiles.

Would be a real hoot to hook a hog with only one spot to stand, and that little hole to drag them back through!
