I am tired of hearing the BS commercials on the radio about the new HIGH QUALITY, WILD, FRESH from the pristine pacific waters of the NW,Fisherman with ice on board, bled right when it comes aboard. I CALL BS
And now in the age old tradition of the tribe comes Smoked and Double smoked Wild Salmon. They dont even smoke their own fish they contract it out to some other place. It bothers me when I see just how deceptive this ad campaign is to the general public. I would think it must border on Illegal. If it were to work out for the tribe it would only mean that they would push even harder for more netting for them and less fishing for us. When your Safeway manager calls and says bring more fish what are you going to say NO, Better get a few extra nights, on the Pristine waters of Elliott Bay, catching only Wild fish, that are in need of protection.
Oh Well...

It was the Muckleshoots who walked out of the North of Falcon meetings in 2003 rather than discuss a more equitable Elliott Bay Chinook season for sports fishers. Apparently the discussions of sports groups which culminated in recommendations to WDFW to present to the tribes were sugar coated by WDFW so as not to upset the tribes. Hopefully this year more sports fishers will show up at the various NOF meetings to let the tribes know we are tired of their domination of the process. It isn't going to change from being sico of their BS. It is going to change when the sports fishers make a much bigger show of force. The tribes are generally more concerned about their image to bring people into their casinoes to lose money than they are about fishing. Make it known to the general public just how pathetic they are and things might swing around a bit. They simply do not care about the fish. They care about making as much money as possible.

If you do a search you will find a thread that talks about this subject for about five pages from a couple months ago.

grandpa, like what happens at these n.o.f. meetings? is it a discussion of allocation of fish..? maybe what we can do is check on city ordinances and set up people with signs, boycotting safeway... that may help some, but then what to do about them netting, i mean they need to get there own hatchery instead of milking off of taxpayers money like all the tribes do..

I would love to know how the tribes manage to bleed dead fish.

The North of Falcon process is made up of a series of meetings from Seattle to Sacramento. The major stake holders including the tribes and sports fishers meet with fisheries officials both from the states and the federal government. The meetings will start with "open to the public" forums where proposals from all the groups are floated for discussion. The proposals have to do with allocation of the harvestable fish. Who gets how many and in what areas they get them. Things such as the area 5 and 6 catch and release Chinook seasons we saw this past summer are the result of the process. Those who participate in the process are heard and their proposals are considered and at the end in April the seasons and quotas are finalized and set in the rules we all must abide by. This process does not allocate more fish but is a give and take with the currently available harvestable stock. Traditionally the tribes veto most proposals that would benefit sports fishing and sometimes just walk out coming back at the end to bully things their way. That is changing as sports groups gain more and more power and savvy on how to work within the process.

Grandpa,

I understand that Trout Unlimited participates in the NOF process. I'm not a member of TU. Do you know if other recreational fishing organizations are involved in NOF, and if so, which ones? I'm thinking folks on this BB might want to know how best to have themselves represented in the process.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

Salmo...Puget Sound Anglers is heavily involved on sports fishing advisory groups and also at the North of Falcon process. We have allocated the money to have a representative at all the meetings including the finale in Sacramento. Changes were made in 2003 because of our participation. The same faces and PSA hats showing up at all these meetings does not go unnoticed. The RFA is also heavily involved this year.

I went to the Mill Creek meeting last year, very informative. They keep a tally of what was said and what people were interested in. If you care at all about sport seasons you need for your voice to be heard. beathead

Several issues were discussed at the Mill Creek NOF meeting in 2003 and some of the things discussed were ultimately changed as a result of what was discussed. Getting involved does work.

Does anyone else remember the 70's commercial about littering with the chief in the feathered head dress and a tear in his eye standing along the freeway? The salmon stewards BS is the same type of propaganda.

My post was only in response to a Tribe BSing the public about the product that they are putting out to the public. I have spent many hours on the tribes enforcement boat watching how they handel their catch. I also do not know how they can claim the fish are wild? All i was pointing out was the marketing that they are doing is very misleading, and it is a product that can lead to serious health problems if not taken care of, and it is a costly buy at the store and I think the ads are lies and I am pissed about it PERIOD. Thats All I was posting about, Politics, NOF, WDFW, another day...
