I booked a trip for two days on the stamp river in March. Questions abound. Has anyone been there for the nate run? How was your success? Talking to the guide they use jigs most of the time, especially Beu Mac jigs. I think I will take a big selection of my own jigs. Any patterns that you will suggest, I will not fish Beau macs (they suck) Only jigs tyed on Gammy's make it to my box. Any other tips? I'm fishing W/ Murphy's lodge.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

There are better jigs than Beau Macs, but I wouldn't say they suck. I probably put 50 or more fish on the beach last year using 1/8 oz BeauMac bead-bodied jigs. They work pretty well for me.

fishing w/Murphy's, your going with the best on the system. Beau Mac jigs are the most popular up herre mostly due to the fact we fish jigs very little compared to you guys down south. The run in march has been getting stronger over the years and if there are any fish you will be guided into them.

The beau mac is a great concept for a jig, with a little effort you can make one that looks just like them but fishes a whole lot better. Better mariboo and better hooks.

I don't doubt it...............but a shortage of effort has been an ongoing problem for me. laugh

I agree with dan S. on this.. Beau macs are a great jig (espicially when you consider the price point). To say that they suck is a bit drastic. I have used the colones, but still have better luck with the good ol beaumacs.

I guess I am just a gear snob. I hate to see companies cut corners on quality to save a few dimes. I'll just keep making my own. I sure wouldn't chance a fish of a life time on a hook that will straighten out.

W. coyote,

I know exactly what you're saying. When it gets late in the season and I know the big, bad fish are cruising the river, I use Silent Approach jigs because they are tied on a better hook and just by glancing you can see they are a more attractive, well tied jig than the Beau Macs. Check out this pic.........these are some jig colors I use for winter fish, the first few are Beau Macs, the purple one is from Silent Approach.

But I'll say this.........I haven't lost a fish to a bent hook on a Beau Mac jig in a couple years. And I go through a lot of jigs in a season.........so using a 90 cent jig appeals to me.

For making a special trip to NW BC, go with the best jigs you can get your hands on.

Beaumacs are a ok jig and I have caught several fish on them. I however no longer use them as the hooks are not the qaulity I prefer. If a hook needs to be sharpened before I use it, it is not a good hook in my book.
