I've been fishing rags for quite some time now and was making some up tonight when I decided it'd be nice to slip some of that straw stuff down the middle so that it moved up and down my leader like a corkie. The ones you buy (aeroflys as well) all have that hollow strawlike material inside but what is it and more importantly how do they glue it in?

Use a little super glue or if you are a fly tyer some zapagap. Same thing. Before you insert the tube hit the ends with a lighter, it will flair the end making it look cleaner.

FCTS,

Before I decided it wasn't worth the effort to build my own dink floats anymore, I used fuel line material for RC cars and planes. You can get it at hobby stores and buy it by the foot, real cheap.

Good luck.

Fish on...

Todd

Best stuff in the world.....Go to a place that has bottled oxygen......can buy the tubing, its clear, soft, and super glue works good with it.

I've used it for "rags" and dink floats.

another good thing to use is a hot glue gun. Really sets well, and think it's same stuff they use for the dink floats I do believe. Plus, flexible, so doesn't work itself loose. But, not a big deal, since it isn't being forced like a wrap around dink float.

If you ever happen to go into a bar beer ask for a grip of cocktail straws [tip the bartender]. They come in all colors - black at the club where I tend bar- are practically free and have a smaller diameter. Or you could just swipe some from next to the coffee pot at work. Also, if you use a HOT nail to pierce, you may not need a thing in there if you can get a clean hole.

I haven't used rags but a few times, and didn't have any sucess when I did. But, when I started pinning my corkies down with a tooth pick I improved my hook up rate. I firmly believe if your corkie/attractant is where it should be(by hook) at all times you have a better chance of hookin up with these weary critters. Just my.02 rolleyes
