A group of us are planning a trip up to checkout the Vedder and I'm looking for a cabin close by to rent, or even a hotel.

I found several places in Chilliwack. are these the closest? Any help would be great!!

I'm looking foward to checking out the area and the Vedder as well. Just the time off work is awesome.

Our fishing club has always stayed at the Best Western in Chilliwack. We've always had a good experience with them. I don't know the number, but I'm sure you can find it on their website.

Stay at the Best Western "Rainbow Country Inn" on Lickman Road exit off HWY 1. Nice rooms, good cafe for early morning breakfasts, and a great bar for jugs of Kokanee, eh? Plus if you head south on Lickman Road you'll run right into the Vedder.

Lot of anglers stay there, nice to hear stories over breakfast or a beer. beer

Good luck!

call Fred's Custom tackle at 604-858-7344. There are cabins right at Vedder crossing. They used to be for rent I just don't know if they still are, ask some one at Fred's they will know. The cabins are right beside the river and there is a cafe to eat at there also. Fishing has been ok, much better than last year so far into the season.

Many of the Canadians like to fish pink worms, small tuffs of wool(yarn), or eggs under floats. If it were me I would try to show the fish something different then what they've been seeing lately. Most of what works down here will work equally well up there(drift fishing corkies, spin-n-glows, rags, ect.). Also, take some fresh sandshrimp up with you in your cooler(make sure your room has a small frig to keep them in). If they are in short supply of shrimp that will be your ace in the hole. Good luck! Let us know how you do.

The fish up here see lots of "bugs" as we call them,if you want to try something different not alot of guys up here use bent metal ,the same goes for jigs n floats .You might want to skip the whole bottom bouncing deal as people will think your trying to floss and burn you off.As of this post the river is in fine shape top to bottom,if you are hoping for a hatchery fish concentrate below vedder crossing,if you just want to catch steelies above the crossing is where i would check out.

Dynamite Kid,

I certainly wasn't advocating walking into the middle of a bunch of float fisherman to start drift fishing. That is asking for trouble. That being said I've had excellent success drift fishing where I can find my own water. On a seperate note I heard a bunch of fish moved in over the last week. What is the average fish per rod over there right now? Thinking about making a trip myself. Thanks.

To be perfectly honest a 1 fish day is a success and any more is doing good. We have a large abundance of good rods fishing this river and very little if any water is left untouched every day. This is the problem when the goverment only supply hatchery fish to a couple of rivers.I have been thinking of coming down south to fish, any body want to take me fishing for a day .

Dynamite Kid has got it summed up. All I can add is, if theres a lot of people in the prime spots, dont hesitate to drop your bait into some marginal waters. Especially if the water is coloured up (2'-3' of vis.). The fish are always moving around. Good luck.

There is a brand new fishing magazine that just hit the newstands called Salmon and Steelhead Journal. In the inaugral issue there is a very detailed article on fishing the Vedder River. It lists campgrounds, motels, resturants and has a good map of the river. Damn that author is good.

Don't you tell people that you own the river and charge a toll to fish it?
