Anyone have a line on a better deal than $370.00 for a pair of wrapped and stopped 9 footers with magnum blades? I like to keep my dollars local, but I've found a few companies on the web that will give a better deal and free shipping. Any of you shop owners want to cut your margin by10-15% to win a sale?

Have you tried Sportco? Which places have them dropped that much? I know a few boat company owners who buy directly from Composites Inc (cataracts) so buy that way instead of in shops. But most places are on set prices. Who are you looking at that would ship free? They hit oversized charges, so wonder if they're selling seconds? You're talking probably $45 to ship a set of oars with oversized charges. To beat a local price and free shipping, would really like to see the company. Unless you're talking about NRS, Clavey, or Cascade Outfitters. They do have a "free shipping" over a certain price. BUT, you have to check, usually doesn't go with oversized products. Especially on which oars you buy, they may have to be drop shipped via freight company (not UPS, FedEx, but an actual Freight forwarder).

I'd say go with what you're looking at. If they can beat Sportcos, and some of the other companies (including Swiftwater supply in Seattle) go for it. I doubt these companies will drop that much to make a sale (but you just missed sportco had 10% last weekend thanks to Sportsman show).

Last year at the Seattle Sportsman's show there was a booth that had very good prices on Cataracts. I'll be looking for them this year in Monroe.

Winterrun, Thanks! I saw your price at the Puyallup show and hadn't ordered my new Willie yet so I didn't buy. Do you have two black 9' oars in the store now? If so, I'll come down on Saturday and pick them up. Thanks!

Once again, thanks Winterun. I Stopped in yesterday and picked up my new 9' cats. Price was 10% off regular. Of course I had to drop a couple hundred more since I was down there. To the other tackle shops out there - If you're willing to deal a little, you'll make your margin up in the long run with repeat customer purchases. Bill knows how to win a customer. Even though the place is 40 miles and I pass at least ten tackle shops on the way, he saved me $70.00. Worth the drive.

A few years ago I could've got the best deal in the world on a pair of cataracts at sportco. I took the pair up to the counter the gal looked them up in the book and entered the price, rang up the rest of the tackle. Grand total for all the gear and oars was less than two hundred bucks. I thought about if for a second. Asked her if she had the right price on the oars. She said 100 and something for the pair... I told her that is a great sale price for me but you'll likely loose your job, FYI, that price is for each. She was shocked and relieved and I walked away guilt free.

Could you imagine the bad fish mojo for taking a deal like that.

Piper I bought a new fly rod like that 3 years ago. Except the clerk argued with me and refused to except the fact that it was $499 and not $49.99 she charged me.

Now thats a deal for sure... let me ask you this...

Has it broke yet? how many fish have you lost with it?

J/k...

If they refuse to accept your honesty I would suppose you could take it guilt free... that is one of those philosophical questions you could ask three people and get three different answers... wink
