They are having layoffs today. If you are not Native American, you got a pink slip. Sounds like racism to me!!!

Check the Tribes HR policies. There's probably something in writing that deals with the hiring / firing / and layoff preferences based on whether your a Tulalip Tribal Member, Tribal Member from another Tribe, or a non-Tribal member.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I worked for the Tribe for a few years, I know what your going through. beathead

I heard that there is always a job available for any tribal member that wants to work....but many of them don't want to.

That's pretty much how it works on my ol' lady's tribe's rez. She's the first one to criticize that lack-luster "can live without earning a living" attitude. But it goes on everywhere.

Believe it on not sounds like they are one step from Chapter 11. Go figure? They have missed payment on some major notes lately.

If they do go Chapter 11, I wonder if they will scream for a Federal bailout..... Probably.....
Something wrong that they can discriminate based on race/ethnicity, but off their reservation they would scream bloody murder if non-indians were given preference in job status...... I think I need to read Michael Moores latest book "Stupid White Men"..... Title says it all.......

I think the tribal heirarchy has skimmed so much that someone finally figured out there was no money left....The rez is the embodiment of the rich few reaping most of the rewards while the masses are still poor and addicted .

The payouts are secret but I understand that the percentage paid out is super low compared to Vegas where it is regulated....

Maybe they should try the good old American way..go to school and get a job...work hard and earn a living....

i heard awhile back that they had built the biggest tribal casino around..maybe all this competition will cause other tribes to do the same, build bigger and more elaborate casino's and thus when the hype is all over, thats what there stuck with, jus a building.. and about the lay offs... its called the "tero laws" its the most racist way of hiring ever created and legistlation put it into law.. go figure..

The tribal politics & way of life are as close to soviet communism as you can get. Look at the results.

Tulalips building mall near casino

TULALIP (AP) -- The Tulalip Tribes have signed a 75-year lease with a New Jersey company to build a shopping mall on 47 acres north of their new tribal casino at Quil Ceda Village near Marysville.

"This is very important to the tribe," tribal Chairman Herman Williams Jr. told The Herald of Everett on Tuesday. "This is the synergy we have wanted to create to make our casino a success and to make our tribe a success for generations to come."

The mall will be developed and operated by Chelsea Property Group of New Jersey, which operates 60 such shopping malls. It will have 100 to 120 designer and name-brand stores.

The agreement should initially bring the tribal government $1.2 million a year, Williams said. The mall will be called Seattle Premium Outlets. Construction is set to begin this spring and be completed in spring 2005.

I saw on the local news that the tulalips borrowed 120 million to build the place. Not sure if they have defaulted, but it sounds like things are tight. I do know they gave alot of money to the Boys and Girls club in tulalip and built a new tribal school. No idea where the rest of the profits from the casino ended up. I do know there was a big stink when the tribes in pierce county gave all thier members a big check from the casino profits and the tulalip tribal members were really giving the tribal leadership an earful about not getting a handout of their own.
The amazing part is when the casino opened the tribe could not get their members to apply for jobs at the casino so the hired a bunch of non tribals and now it is these long time employees that are being given thier walking papers.

smile $120 million debt to be retired in 5 years with a big balloon payment at the end doesnt sound to be going under. Over optimistic revenue projections and inexperienced mgmt. seem to be the culprits in the layoff. Good business practice says you adjust to the demand and staff accordingly. I think you'll see some of those people rehired as the demand increases.

Poor payouts and expensive food and drinks. And I believe they thought people would continue to come regardless of what they did. As fewer people play they have to make the payouts even tighter to make up the difference, which results in even fewer customers. Lots of alternatives available to people these days.
