Hey all!

Wife and I are planning another trip to Maui hopefully in May.... This time I am keeping a promise to myself and going out in a boat to fish. I am primarily interested in Trevally, Mahi-Mahi, and Tuna. Not really interested in chasing Marlin. Can any of you give me advice on finding a good charter outfit? Would it be worth renting a boat and going myself?

Thanks for any help here....

MC

I'll be there from May 9th -17th. Been looking into the same info. It seems May is about the best time to fish in Maui also.

A few links with some good info

I had good luck with Startmeup in Lahaina. Saul is a good captain. They fish for marlin a lot but will go for anything you like. They are one of the best outfitted in the Harbor there.

I would definitely reserve before you get there. It's amazing how many of the boats are always full

Thanks guys!

Maybe I'll give startmeup a call! Someone told me though that you are expected to give the crew your fish... This true? Wouldnt mind sharing, but for what it costs I want some mahi-mahi or Trevally to take home to eat!
Say it aint so! Alaska guides would never dare make a rule or "custom" like that, especially the Halibut guides!
