Any of you fish'en fools ever fish or heard of guys fishing near the I-5 launch on the Cowlitz with prop powered outboards?
I'm wondering if it's deep enough at mid water winter flows to get away with some boondogg'en action from the corner above the bridge back down to the bridge?

Lofty,

At these flows you'll have no problem with a prop. The biggest issue is visability. The Toutle river kicks in a ton of ash/silt and anything above about 600 to 800 CFS puts the Cow out below the mouth of the Toutle. Unless you get a very extended period of no rain or very cold weather it very seldom comes in during the winter. Good luck!

The I-5 launch is above the mouth of the Toutle. You would probably be a;right in a smaller boat.12-14 ft.Aluminum.But be dang careful, and watch the flows.

Lofty, I fished it many times in the past with my 14.5 high laker with a 15hp short shaft and had no problem. Try to stay above 6000 and just watch for the boils and take it easy. Did well in the past trolling plugs for springer, back when the river had some good returns,

I used to run my 1972 18' lavro drift boat with a motor well in side and a 9.9 rude from the I-5 launch to the first hole which we named the I-5 honey hole during the summer for summer run's back in the late 80's early 90's.We never hit any thing but the beach after a few cowboy cool aid's.We even caught some fish from time to time.Man that was fun.Good luck,

P.S. It would take us a half hour to get up there and around a half hour to pull plug's back down.

I stand corrected. I assumed he was talking about the ramp down by the mouth. I guess I need to take a little more time reading through the post.

Thanks for the headsup on the lower cowlitz oppurntunities guys!
Sounds like if i'm cautious and hit it up over 6,000 cfs it should be golden. I'm thinking i'll pull some plugs and/or herring rigs for some springers in about a month. Fishfinder should help me scope out rocks and logs on my 1st trip.
