I know there is still plenty of late season winter steelheading to do, and eventually soon springers will be in. But with the talk of Blackmouth, and since the Halibut season is just around the corner, and so is summer, I was curious as to what are your favorite marine areas to fish, or would like to fish given the opportunity?

We will be out at Neah 4 or 5 times June- August. Nothing like dropping the dart for halibut and picking up a king at 100 ft. Why are you doing this to me Jaydee?

To you, why am I doing it to myself? :p
I love to fish winter steel, but I also love summer fishing, and summer in general!
Can't wait for a PNW summer... umbrella

I voted Sekiu for all the fish and the fact that I have a small boat. But the South Sound is a close second. I love to fish for SRCs and chums from the beaches along with the occational resident coho with a fly rod. Nothing fights like a 16" salty cutt on a 4wt! I also was thinking about the Hood Canal for SRCs and beach coho/pinks/chums but I was sad to find out that it was not listed in the poll. frown

I also voted for Sekiu because I have a small boat, a 16' Smokercraft.

My second choice would be Central/South Area 10 because the West Seattle launch is 10 minutes from home.

smile Fishing the banks in the straits for bottom fish was my all time favorite saltwater fishery. You never knew what you were going to bring up & it was usually pretty big. The 1 rockfish limit pretty much put an end to bottom fishing on the inside waters for me. cry

Yeah Jerry.... I might make it out there once or twice myself wink Maybe this time I'll be able to find your boat, orange was it? last year every time I looked up to find it, another fish would interupt. laugh

ITS REALLY ROUGH OUT IN THE OCEAN, 15 FOOT BREAKERS DAILY, 20 FOOT SWELL TOO! STAY AT SEKIU WHERE THE WATERS CALM AND THE BOAT LAUNCHES ARE CONCRETE!

WE'LL TRY AND LET A FEW GET THROUGH FOR YA! :p

Any wonder why I voted for Westport? Just love the thrill of crossing the bar and returning to port in one piece. Of course it helps that I don't get seasick too!

Steve.. I agree with Westport. My biggest was smaller than yours but still pushing 50 and was the thrill of the year. The bar crossing sucks but fishing is hard to beat. Neah Bay is similar without a bar to cross.

I gotta go with Marine Area 13.. I am 5 minutes from the ramp and another 10 minutes to my favorite spots- nearly always have it to myself! The fishing is great too!

At 44 votes, the results are interesting.
I voted a Neah since I live and work there 5 months out of the year. And the fishing can be phenominal. It's been like a second home to me since my teen years. (After 5 months out there, it's nice to get back to the 'burbs though.) Understand that proximity influences your vote.
B10 can be fantastic, but the crowds are not, to me any way. (Don't like bar crossings either)
Love the Willipa Bay fishery, but haven't done that in years.
Like the Elliot Bay fishery.
Westport is great, especially during the Tuna season last year. Lots of jumbos. And of course the Kings, when it's at it peak. Don't care for the bar there, or at the Qulliyutte.
Do enough fishing in MA 3 that I could've voted for lapush.
Understand why Sekiu is so popular, especially amongst the small boaters. Hope to fish BM's there soon.
Appoligize for not listing Hood Canal. Meant to.
See ya.

Well, B10 is where I catch the most fish in the shortest time, and I seem to catch my biggest fish there too - 3 and 4 fish limits in recent years certainly helps. The coho seem to run bigger there on average too - went several weeks there last year without catching a coho under 12 pounds eek I can't really do the ocean in my little boat and wouldn't want to anyway - inner ear damage from allergies and ear infections as a child left me with extreme suceptibility to motion sickness help But except for that I fish them all.

i'd rather have concrete docks.... lol

btw, the launch at neah bay is concrete.... except at the very top end (flat) and at the very bottom end (only a worry during minus tides).

can't wait for this summer, especially going to westport for a week in late august (will get to finally see a bar where i fish... on the water and on the land <G>)

...and a "sling'n'rail" launch if you don't like concrete either.
