Got word today of possible word of an opening for a kill fishery on the Queets effective March 1. I know the river has had some major escapement issues in recent years, so this is obviously of concern.

Does anyone have any more info on this? And, if possible, I'm sure one of you out there has the pertinent contact info for the Park Superintendent, could you please pass it along for everyone. Thanks smile

I heard it was the National Park that wanted it.

There ia a catch and kill fishery on the Queets, but I dont think it is a special opening of any kind the season has been listed in the Olympic National Park regulations since about last May or June. I think the limit is 1 per day and 2 per season, I dont know if they will go to catch and release on April 1st to conform with the rest of the state though.

Thanks for the heads-up Strawberry. I get down there about one day a year with Fishgal and that's about it. I know that it's been an off-again on-again kill fishery for some time and from the notes I got, I was under the impression that it was off-again this year.

Perhaps we can get some more clarification of exactly what is being proposed?

Here's the original regs for the Queets and other rivers within the Olympic Nat'l Park.

Last year it was Feb. 1. Talk about a busy river. On last presidents day 53 boats did the low drift.

The bummer will be when all other rivers are closed to kill after April 1st, the Queets will be the only kill fishery in the whole state for two weeks (until the 15 th)
Ouch.

I sent an email to the Park. we all should do the same. They need to follow stage regs. It is funny becuase on the Upper Quinault sections that are in the aprk and open for fishing, they use state regs "cause its easier" (quote from the Ranger)...maybe they'll follow suit on the Queets with a little pressure.
