Does anyone use braided line for their leader between a float and jig? I was wondering if it worked ok or is mono still the best bet. It would be nice to use braid to lessen the amount of jigs lost due to snags. Also, what pound do you use. I use 20lb fireline on my mainline to the float and works great because it floats and is mended easily. I have heard some of the great old timers(Herzog) HATES braid, why?

Perhaps the no stretch factor ... while good for the mainline, mono acts as a shock absorber for those quick little tugs that will often pull a hook out.

I'm in the same boat as Zog except for the mainline for my float fishing or for the butt rods.

For Fall Chinook I like to run bradied line to the jig as my leader. Twenty-pound Power Pro is my line of choice. I'm also using 3/0 Owner jig hooks when fishing this method. I use a heavier rated braided line as my mainline. This set-up has worked great for me

For steelhead I'll still use 20# Power Pro as my mainline but use 10 # maxima as my leader.

I use 14 lb Fireline for my main line on my float rod and mono leader.

I use 14lb Fireline as well. It makes casting of really light jigs much easier.

I use Spiderwire Fusion or Stealth as a mainline with Maxima or Trilene Big Game as leader (8 to 12lb test). Sometimes I'll go with a fluorocarbon leader in low/clear water.

I use a 10 foot 6 inch noodle rod with 10 pound spiderwire stealth or power pro with a 6 or 8lb. maxima ultragreen leader depending on the clarity. I always use a mono leader. The reason I only use these two brands of braided line is because they state on the package that they won't cut the guides on your rod. I have heard of people using certain brands of braided line, and it cut the guides on their rod because the line has such a hard finish. They were pisssssssssssed ooooofff!!!!

I used 20 pound Power Pro as main line on my float rod for about a year and went back to mono. The rod I use (Loomis 1474) had too much power and with the combo of the rod and the braid (the rod is rated 10-17) I was snapping leaders on the hookset. Lost 4 fish on hooksets. I went back to Izor on the reel and haven't had that problem. If my float rod had lighter action the braid would be the way to go as I liked it other than the snapped leaders.
