Does anyone have a pic or sketch of a wooden motor stand or cart? Or just design ideas? I Received a free 1968 65hp Merc and I need to take it off the boat for inspection and disassembly in my garage. I called a motor shop and they said it weighs approx 300lbs. The sad thing is, is that I'm a carpenter, yet I can't think of a good way to build this stand that won't take up half the garage itself !!! Any thoughts or ideas? A pic would be great !! Thanks

I don't need no stinky digital camera. I am an artist laugh

Make 2 two L looking piece (see picture below). Connect them together both on top and bottom. On bottom connect with the wide part of the wood resting on the ground for stability. On top connect with edge of the wood facing up so you can hang The motor. The motor hangs inside the 2 L. Since you are a carpenter you know how to make a strong L and how to connect them good.

Ignore the dots (..) in the picture I had to put them in there to fill up the blanks. Does it make sense?

for 300 lbs you need to beef it up. Mine holds fine for 100ish. The long piece on the ground (leg of the L) prevents motor from flipping over.

Yeah, I think that makes sense! I couldn't get away from wanting to build an "A" frame type of thing, but that was just getting too complicated and bulky!! Thanks for the input !!!I'll have to remember my steel toe boots when I first lower it down !!! cry Anyone else have a thought?

Try this website.

http://www.fiberglassics.com/forms/forum1/showmessage.asp?fm=Forum&messageID=16470

If you don't get directly there go to fiberglassics.com Click on Forums, then on general forum in the new window that opens. Do a search on motor stands and you will find the message, pictures, and instructions to build it.

Good luck.
