Had to read the 3rd choise a few times but I take it as Catch/release and no netting of wild fish....we must share the fin-clips

Micro:

One must "assume" that option 3 includes the cessation of those things noted in then later part of opt. 1?

I didn't vote because it is not clear what I'm voting for. Catch and release for what? Salmon? Steelhead? Trout? Walleye? Sturgeon? Just wild fish or does it include hatchery fish as well? Is it Statewide or just those rivers where commerical/tribal harvest occur (as well as recreational fishing)?

That's too many unknowns for me to provide an informed opinion/vote. Provide a better question and you'll get a better answer.

I too am not voting because my choice wasn't in there. I believe in selected harvest (depending on the watershed and fish species) and the elimination of nets, focus on environment etc. The fact that they even let nets near the jewel of the northwest (columbia) is beyond me.

No vote here. My choice is to work to get nets out, work to improve habitat, work to improve hatcherys and C&R as long as necessary.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but this is a result-oriented poll, rather than an information gathering poll.

It's kind of a pro-lifer's poll asking if you are pro-life, or are you pro-death?

Don't directly harvest wild fish, work with tribal fish managers to lower or eliminate tribal impacts on wild runs, work with non-tribal commercial fishers to reduce or eliminate incidental impacts on wild steelhead, work with local, state, and federal government agencies to improve water quality, work to preserve existing habitat, restore damaged habitat, and create missing habitat, and improve hatchery practices to produce viable clipped-fish fisheries for tribal and non-tribal fisheries while minimizing the detrimental effects of hatcheries on wild fish runs, and perhaps even help wild runs.

Note that each of those priorities starts with the word "work", which brings me to my final and perhaps most important priority, which is to encourage every stakeholder to become more educated and involved in the processes that lead to reaching those goals.

There's probably more, too, but that's a few off the top of my head.

Fish on...

Todd

I am having trouble with narrow agenda fisheries management and narrow agenda advocacy. I agree with the broad approach on many fronts.

this poll left out option #4: Do you believe in the Easter bunny?

I voted catch and release rules where harvest has been totally eliminated. I feel that would be best.

To those confused by the way in which the poll was set up I am sorry I was in a hurry but I figured that it would be pretty obvious that I was talking about native steelhead since thats all the rave these days.

I just want to define clearly to the activist out there what would be best for the fish. Lets not waste our time anymore lets go right to the big problems and get these fish stocks healthy again.

It may be early still but so far this poll shows clearly that most people including myself believe commercial/ tribal nets , the enviroment, etc.... are more important issues than sportfishermens harvest.

It also seems to show that some people see regulation on sportsfishermen as the best thing we can accomplish for the fish.

My point is falling short of the mark is not going to accomplish our goal of bringing the fish back to their original splender. Supporting a rule just because it is more easily obtainable and might at least help a little is going to give you a "C" at best. C's dont get you ahead in life so how can you settle for anything less then a "A".
