I'm thinking of fishing the sky on sunday. Last time I did this drift, the lavel was about 2000. I seem to remember it being a little low. Currently the level is 1730. Is it high enough for a drift boat? I'll be out there in a dark brown DB. Thanks for the help!

While that is the best DB drift on the river in my opinion I would not attempt it at those flows. The bottom in quite a few places has been scoured from the last oct floods. I drifted it at 3000cfs and still had to drag the boat over
a few shelves. If you do drift it will be a serious boat grinder. Also just below gold bar at low flows the water funnels in to some nasty boulders after you go around the corner on the left hand side. Be careful.

Thanks for the input, Chrome454. If you ever see a brown DB with a loomis sticker on it, come by and I'll toss you a cold beer!Rechecking my fishing log I see the last time I drifted the upper Sky the level was actually 2600 and I remember a couple of low spots. You are right about that one nasty spot. Two guys in a canoe(!?) lost it right before me. Everery one was fine but wet and cold. I'm headed up to the Skagit instead tomorrow.

Don't bother, just go from Sultan or Ben Howard down to Monroe. This drift is overrated anyway, and there's starting to be too many zipperheads, without a clue, running this drift. It's probably "three-rivers-marine" telling them to buy a new alumaweld, then go fish from high bridge down and you'll catch lots of fish. But you have to buy this alumaweld first of course, because anything else doens't catch fish. I digress, I'm sorry

Thanks 10footfred. You might be right about that drift. I've only done it once. But I did have two hook ups, one of which was a nice 10# plus steelie. For a beginner like me, it was a pretty big thrill. No doubt about it, the guys at three rivers marine are in it to sell boats. But they have always given me good fishing info and they have done great work on both of my old POS boats. Good luck out there!
