Hey y'all
I'm really interested in fishing fro sturgeon around Priest Point/Snohomish River Mouth, since the steelhead option is out. Does anyone out there have some experience in it. I've been on Columbia River charters and have the basic idea down, but have heard conflicting information about where to find them. A local shop told me to focus in the salt water where it is shallow (less than 20 feet deep) while another website said to find deep holes and dropoffs in the mouth of the river.
Any little bit of information helps, and I appreciate it

Andy (formerly just a lurker)

I have done pretty well out in the salt. We always fish from I-5 down, but I have heard of people doing well further upriver. We fish everything from 7-20 feet. Three weeks ago I tried and didnt catch anything or see anybody else get fish but it usually picks up as the season goes on.

In front of the beach houses, not that far out is a trench that gets deeper, mayber 20'. This is good sometimes. Across from the beach houses there is a shallow area where birds hang out on the sand at low tide. We have done best all along there in about 8 feet of water on outgoing tide. Also, look for the other boats to pick a good spot. I see the same boats everytime I go out. They must know more than me.

We use herring for bait. Seems to be a little more of a challenge for the numerous crab out there to steal than sandshrimp. Good luck.

That really helps, I know where you're talking about. I saw one try to beach itself this summer on Priest Point right along that edge of the shallow water.
We'll be out there saturday in an aluminum 14 footer. One sturgeon rod, one fly rod (for cutts) and two cases of beer. Say hi if you're around.

If nothing else, we'll catch a buzz

I have been out there twice for one fish. We fished the river and the salt . The only fish came from Ebey slough right in the hole upriver from I-5 almost underneath it in the deep water at the start of the flood on sand shrimp. How specific of directions could you ask for?
Good luck! wink
