One of you suggested that hitting the Canadian water (Swiftsure I suppose) for halibut, out of Neah, would be a good way to go.

I'm wondering what two-week period of the year is generally the most productive for 'buts in that Canadian water?

Ah, I can almost taste them filets now!

Thanks

July and August, but it really depends on the size of your boat and fuel capacity.Canadian swiftsure is shallower that the American side so the butt's move there a little later in good numbers. If you have a big boat and can run out 40 miles and back there are some spots on the Canadian side that are great.

Calmer weather/water of mid summer allows not only a nicer ride to that side of the boarder, but also allows a better drift. Halibut fishing seems to tail off "a bit" in the later half of August, but really there's fish there literally all the time. I'll be fishing the Canadian side out of Neah in mid-April (seas permitting of course), and we should have no problem getting our fish.
I agree with Jerry. Go in mid-late July or early August. (Chinooks too.)

This one I'd check out very! carefully with the Fed's ours and the Canadians. Once you've crossed into Canadian Waters you're under the thumb of their laws and regulations (catch, licence, etc).

It's one thing to 'transite' Canadian waters going from one place in the US to another, but quite a different thing being described here.

Been a LOT of years since I was in the US Coast Guard in the Straights, but once you crossed the international dateline you had a very different game plan going.

If your going to cross the international date line be shure to take plenty of fuel, it's on the other side of Hawaii.
