Dropped by Sportco today and picked up some of the new K16-X Kwikfish. Thought some of you might like to see a side by side "Vehix.com style" comparison.

The package states the new X will achieve a flatlined dive down to 16 ft (the current ad running in STS says 18 ft, take your pick). The deeper dive seems to be achieved with a little more bullet-shaped bill edge, a more aggressive scoop on the face of the bill, more curvature to the body, as well as a sleeker tapered and less bulky body, especially the butt end. Kind of like Oprah on a diet.... this plug is definitely looking more svelte than the standard K16, but she's still a big girl.

Oh one more thing.... you can disregard the claims about needing no tuning. I bought four plugs and two of them had the front eyelet so crooked, they swam like they had whirling disease. A little touch up with the pliers took care of that! I will have to commend them for using good stout Kenai-caliber eyelets.... way beefier than the ones on the similarly molded K13's.

I just did a side-by-side swim test in my pool on the two plugs scanned above. WOW! It's like night and day! The new K16-X really puts a deep throb into the full length of the rod, all the way down to the butt... music to my eyes!

The swimming action has a much more exagerrated sideways wobble than the standard K16. It is very noticeable. The fact that this plug "catches" so much more water should be a real plus when backtrolling some of the slower holes, or when fishing tight to the bank. Might be just the ticket for fine-tuning the presentation for the full 20 ft spread of 4 rods... I plan on running it flat-lined on the inside rod (softer water closest to shore) for sure.

Sure hope those kings like the enhanced action as much as I do. We'll see.

Sorry fishndoc,
I just had the visual of you trolling in your pool with your wife shaking her head....my wife would commiserate...She used to laugh at me for crawling on my hands and knees to shoot ducks in my lower field.

The "X" only comes in a size 16.

Don't despair, because the K13 you are using probably shares most of the attributes of the K16-X. They are molded in the same fashion and appear to be proportional in size and curvature, just smaller. The only real difference I can see is the K13 lacks the more aggressive scoop on the face of the bill

I started using the K13's two seasons ago on the Kenai for silvers.... they love 'em. Here's one of many caught with the plug flat-lined right off the dock by the cabin:

I just stocked up on my supply of lighted K16 x's for the summer toads. Just think 3 more months of springers, then (poof) it's time for the heavy weights.
The tank test is good, been there. But I have a loaded ? for ya.
Any thoughts on the effects of the pool chemicals and what it has on your lures?
Or, could it be neutralized by the lemon joy factor.

Did a little more testing in the pool earlier today ( now y'day). Spent some time analyzing the action on the new X with th ehelp of my daughter. Rigged two rods with 4-4.5 ft leaders, and had my daughter simultaneously walk two plugs down the length of the pool at a moderate pace while I observed underwater with goggles.

Two more obsevations:

1) I've already mentioned the wider wobble, but the new plug also undulates at just a little slower pace than the standard.

2) The K16-X definitely runs at a steeper line angle. It ran well over one foot deeper on the short 4-4.5 ft "leash" we used for testing.

Ran a K15 as well for comparison.... just got my very own I-fish Cheese Measles in a K-15 the other day. The swimming action of the K16-X was much more like that of the K15 than the std K16.
