No its not an email addy. Im lookin for some info ANyone been out lately for them? I did the search and came up with Ft. Caby state park. Any other places produce well for them? Most of the topics I read said to use shrimp, clam necks, and worms for bait. TAckle was supposedly 2-4oz weight but not sure on the hook size, I know they got a small mouth so maybe a size 4 or 2 hook? Any particular time of the year when its better then others? Sorry for the 20 questions but my father has been hounding me over this subject so I figued Id ask the right peoples

Head west dude... wherever there are sand & waves, there will be perch, also any of the jetties will produce perch, just focus on the surf side of course! As for tackle, yes, perch do tend to have small mouths, but I did catch one that still got a size 1 into it's mouth. The size of hook in my opinion should be dictated by the bait you're using and whether you're going after the big boys or not. But in general, yes size 2-6 should work just fine. If you're concerned about gut hooking smaller perch then I recommend tying loop knots on your leaders so that it greatly reduces the chance of hook swallowing and the bonus is that it provides a more natural presentation as a result of the bait having relatively unrestricted movement. In terms of weight, surf conditions will always dictate what you'll need. Note: You don't always have to have your weight sitting on the bottom to be in the zone, sometimes a very slow retrieve can coax some bites. Line is a personal preference, but should also be dictated by the surf conditions in addition to how much weight you're using.

Make a day of it and hit Westport during the clam digs. If you dig at Westhaven state park you can get clams and then fish the jetty area for perch. Be sure to load up on sandshrimp. Search this BB as I know there have been a few good posts in the last couple years. More Perch info: http://www.funbeach.com/events/fish/perchderby/index.html

OK we had a change of plans this mornin. We decided to go to Long beach, we went through Ilwaco to Fort Canby Park and the park ranger told us the fishing aint been too good there and told us to try at Beards hollow. So we turn around and go in the directions the guy gave us and went down to Seaview park and got on the beach unlucky for us it was high tide, we ran into an older gentlemen walkin his dog who said he does better goin up the beach instead of down my Beards hollow. to make this story short we fished all down through the 28 miles of Long beach and didnt even get a bite. We even tried fishing at westport off the boardwalk cuz we couldnt fish the jetty with all the people surfing. WE drove over 400 freakin miles today, well least I got to see a part of this great state that ive never seen before, Maybe ill try agian for the perch in a few more months

You can use sandshrimp, small beach crabs, sand worms, or pile worms. Drop sinker and 1-1/0 hooks a few inches above the sinker.
Find pilings around piers and docks. If not, then find rocky beaches and fish around the rocks. They usually forage on the pilings and rocks on incoming tides.
Good luck

WOW!!! I am surprised that you got skunked that bad. I have a feeling it was one of several things either singly or in combination: tackle/setup/bait/location. Also, throwing your lead the country mile is not always the best bet. You say that you couldn't fish the jetty because of the surfers? There are perch on both sides of the jetty. Pretty soon the redtails should be congregating in Half Moon Bay so it could be worth fishing the rocks in front of the blue observation tower in town(just across the bay from the south jetty). Hope you have better luck next time. I think you might have saved yourself a little bit of time if you had just drove out to the ocean shores area instead and pounded the beach there. Seems like a bit of a long drive to Canby.

Yeah was a bit of a drive think it was around 3 and a half hours long, but it was a pretty decent day, sun was peeking out most of the day with a few short sprinkles here and there. We were using them crappie rigs, with a 2oz weight and tried prawns, clams, squid, worms, everything but eggs and sandshrimp. When we went to Westport we didnt go down tot he beach access cuz my father wanted to try the boardwalk dock out, so we were there then we were goin to try the jetty right there but in the 3 openings there were people surfing. We are thinkin of heading out to Ocean shores next month to try agian maybe we will hit rialto beach too. the drive up and donw the penninsula wasnt bad but on our way home which was bout 5 o clock it was pouring down rain juss before we got to olympia. Anyways if anyone plans on goin out soon pls post a report on how ya did
