That is a very interesting article, it would be nice if something like that could be put into pratice here to maybe wake up some of these hatchery boots over here. Those fish should definitely be far superior to typical hatchery fish, can remember when I took a tour of our state hatchery and it was like the fish were their own pets, they had nothing to worry about.

Very good article, seemed to explore all aspects. Fair and balanced.

Sounds like the right track to me. I think they will reconsider the impact of predators though, as soon as they figure out how all their hard work ended up in some birds or otters.

From the sounds of it, does it sound like they plan to release the offspring as fry? (I didn't get the impression that they planned on holding the fish much longer than required to clip them.)

I hope the system is a success. Sounds strikingly similar to what I have been promoting. But then, I'm just a fisherman.

Very similar to the Elwha hatchery. Open pond, with acess for predators. No food sprayed into the pond, the fish must strike underwater targets to release food pellets. Anything they can do to simulate nature seems like a good idea. But, I sure would like to see good runs of "real" fish in addition to the hatchery ones.

Why would they clip when we have to throw back all un-clipped in most waters?
