Well we are all geared up to go shrimping this Saturday during the opener. we'll be in the San Juans.

Last year we had some fair luck south of Jones Island. We'd like to seek out some more productive spots. Any suggestions?

I've heard that just south of San Juan island can be good off of one of the points.

Same question, but only in the Elliot Bay area. I'm probably going to take off from the Seacrest Pier. Are there any spots around there for shrimp? What kind of water depth will that be?

thanks!

san juans try s. end of Lopez (Iceburg Pt.)-you won't be alone though!
Seacrest Pier...go over to the breakwall of the Magnolia Marina
Both spots are very productive.

The west side of Jones and south end can be pretty productive. You can go farther south to just in front of Yellow Island and McConnel Island and do well there too. Look where there is a deeper pocket in there and it can produce. The north end of Jones can produce but the tide can move fast enough there to lose your pot in a hurry. Almost did last year. Iceburg Point is the biggest producer in the San Juans. Like he said just on the south end of Lopez. An incoming tide in the straight will wash away your pots if they are not weighted well enough. Mine weigh 30 #s each and there was enough tide to push the buoys under until 7:00 the next morning a couple of years ago. I would say a minimum of 20-25#s per pot in the straight. I know from experience-many lost pots at Iceburg. Also deadheads floating along sometimes picks up pots and carries them away.
