I have an '84...16'x48 fiberglass DB that's been storaged across town which was covered for several years. Now I don't have that luxury and it is now out in the elements.
The age and condition of the boat etc has me thinking twice about an expensive boat cover and I am thinking of using a tarp. One of the big concerns is UV for oxidation since fixing that is so much work(been there!).
The questions are what size tarp should I use and how do I rig it for rain to fall off and not puddling up? I can't check it everyday as it is five miles away. I have it tilted up already but won't it pool up with a stick etc using a tarp? Or should I let it take the rain etc and when summer hits just cover the boat? I really need some ideas.

Thanks for any responses.

Blueslide,

I can tell you about a simple rig to keep the water from collecting on your tarp. First of all do spend the money to get the heavy duty silver tarp with the black backing. All plastics will degrade over time in the sun, but the silver is reflective as well as thicker. While you are at the Home Depot buying the tarp, go to the lumber dept and pick up a 16' 2x6. this will become your center stay , running from your bow to the stern. Depending on the actual measurement you may have to trim the stay, with a point on one end and notches made for stowage or seats. The ones I have seen fit fairly snug. Once you are sure the 2x6 will stay there, then use bungies or ropes to tighten the tarp. Good luck

Paul
