I know that the Boise River going right throught the BSU campus holds some monster browns. If I recall correctly, there has been at least one 20+(lber) taken out of a slot on campus.

South fork Boise river ( not the one in town) 1 hour drive. Owhyee river, actually in Oregon, a little over an hours drive. Both pretty much world class rivers for the fly rod.

Sf Boise Put in Below Anderson Ranch Res and flot for two days. Monster bows on buggers and assorted patterns. fun float great fishing. Or you could mosey on up to the Valley and fish with the rich and famous. Some smaller streams with beaver ponds out of Mountain home.

South Fork of the Boise by Anderson Ranch can be excellent if water levels allow. Pink Albert hatches in the evening are wild. Watch out for rattlesnakes.

Also consider the Big Wood below Sun Valley if the irrigators haven't dried up the river. Had some fun days wading from pocket to pocket pulling one or two good size fish out of each on dries.

For just good fun the North Fork Payette just above the forks can be good. It's about an hour north of Boise. Hopper fishing there can be good. You would be fishing pockets amongst the rapids.

I would highly recommend you go to the Owyee River, which is just over the border in Oregon. I and a group of friends take a ten day fly fishing trip every year. We have fished all over Montana and Idaho. We intended on fishing the Boise area last year, but the water was too low in most of the rivers. A guy recommended the Owyee River in Oregon. The Owyee was without a doubt the best fly fishing I have ever had. Huge browns and Rainbows. We fished from below the Dam on down a couple of miles. It is a small river with plenty of access. I believe it would take you about an hour and a half from Boise to get there. We fished it last September, July will be real hot in that Desert Canyon. Plan on camping unless you want to drive a distance from a motel. You can camp below the Dam, or drive up the road to just above the Dam and there is a state park with RV hookups and showers.

Jerry made me think of something else to add. The payette river below the town of Emmett has some outstanding small mouth bass. Real fun in july to wade in shorts and old sneakers. Its about 30 mins from Boise.

The big wood, and the south fork will have good fishing. The pink albert hatch in the SF canyon is amazing. I have also done well on hoppers (Madam Xs, parahoppers) towards the end of July. There are lots of snakes down there so be careful but the fishing is great.
