Recreational shrimp fishing closing Saturday evening from Edmonds to Deception Pass
Action: Recreational shrimp fishing will close, effective Saturday, April 24, 2004, at 9 p.m. in Marine Areas 8-1, 8-2 and 9, until further notice.
Effective date: Saturday, April 24, 2004, at 9 p.m.
Species affected: All shrimp species.
Location: All waters of Marine Areas 8-1, 8-2 and 9. The exception to this closure is that the Port Townsend Shrimp District will remain open for non-spot shrimp only with an area restriction.
Reason for action: The recreational spot shrimp quotas in these Marine Areas will be reached by the effective date.
Other information: Marine Areas 8-1,8-2, and 9 will reopen in about two weeks for non-spot shrimp only, with a 150 foot maximum fishing depth restriction. Port Townsend Shrimp District remains open for non-spot shrimp only with an area restriction.

Recreational shrimp fishing closing in Marine Area 10 outside Elliott Bay
Action: Recreational shrimp fishing will close, effective Thursday, April 22, 2004, at 3:00 p.m. in all areas of Marine Area 10, except Elliot Bay (those waters east of a line from West Point to Alki Point), until further notice. This affects all Marine Area 10 waters outside of Elliott Bay, including the popular Bainbridge Island shrimp fishing grounds.
Effective date: Thursday, April 22, 2004, at 3 p.m.
Species affected: All shrimp species.
Location: Waters of Marine Area 10, except waters east of a line from Alki Point to West Point.
Reason for action: The recreational spot shrimp share in the area covered under this rule will be reached by the effective date. It is a small quota, only 1,680 lbs.
Other information: The Elliott Bay portion of Marine Area 10 will remain open until further notice.

Not that I agree with what those guys did that got the 1800 shrimp but I can understand why they did it. This is just getting stupid. Why pay as much and more year after year for licensing and get less and less resources available. It drives me nuts that everything is supposed to be closed but you have to play dodge the buoy when riding around in the boat due to all the commercial gear out there...
