What was worse, the hook up or the release?
If you were springer fishing I hope you caught a 50 pounder, man you deserve it.

The worst part is that guy is done fishing for the day and look at all the fish on the Lowrance!

I had a similar experience a few months ago. Took a few minutes to get up the nerve to pull the hook back out but eventually I did and caught some nice fish over the next few hours.

Done for the day? A little scratch like that? \:D

Nothing a couple shots of JD and a foot of electrical tape can't handle for the rest of the day!

Fish on...

I agree with Todd. Pinch the barb, and file it down smooth. Put some ice on it to numb it up a bit then slide it out. Sure it will still be hurting but if the fishing is good, its worth a little extra pain!

Just cut the shank between the barb and the flesh and slide it back out. Dip in seawater for about 5 minutes you'll be good as new.

I find snipping it with side cutters at the base and pulling the peice thru the same way it went in to be the trick, never pull it back the way it came. Not that i would know as single barbless is the law round these parts.Pulled a few huge staples out of hands at a job i had years ago.

OH man nasty memories ...

Same thing, different finger (pinkie).

To make matters worse, it was on a kwikie and the other hook still had about a 2 lb. jack flopping around.

Gal on the boat actually passed out from all the blood.

Thanks for making me think back to that:)

Just cut off the hook and back it out ... not much more you can do! 'Cept of course to clean it up ;\)

My Dad years ago got a hot shot impaled between his thum and forefinger... Long before the days of WSR and barless hooks...

This is the first drift of the day fishing his favorite plug and he lands a hog that thrashes around and runs the hook right thru the flesh...

My Old man is pretty hardcore when it comes to fishing, and there is no way he will screw up the action of a proven Hot Shot by cutting off a hook.

So What does he do... He grabs the pliers and procedes to twist the hook right out of his hand, friggen barb and all... I wince just thinking of it to this day...

To top it off he didn't hook another fish the entire day on that plug...
