Slow. We got one. A few other boats got one. Nobody that I saw did real well. The guides were are driving around, looking for action, which tells you something. Saw maybe a dozen fish for 40-50 boats.

I guess it's what you call hot. This time of year, I think a good day should be at least a fish a rod. Maybe I'm spoiled. May be time to think about kids and trout.

SH, I have some reports from up the river, close to I-5, that the action was more like what you were looking for. Good luck buddy!

Fished Longview yesterday (thursday) and had one bump for 3 rods. Saw one net all day for the 15 or so boats in my area. Heard of better #s up around I-5 from the fish counter. Probably will head up that way over the weekend.

From "another" board, judging by the posts it seems like all the action is around OC on the Willy or the mouth of the Lewis. Might be time for me to start concentrating on the tribs.

I fished out of Kalama and saw one net come out in 10 hours. I also talked with some biologists from ODFW. They put in 4 boats with two people each to do some sampling. They were speculating hopefully that the run was late. We will find out next Wed. I bet they restrict fishing some.

Bonneville is putting out ~10,000 fish/day and the lower river is slow by all accounts, so the "late" theory is wearing a bit thin. I would fish as far upstream as possible, as soon as possible. Methinks the fishery will be restricted or suspended below I-5 sometime next week, especially after DFW watches 10-zillion boats hammer the river below I-5 this weekend. I know I would be in there if I lived close, seeing as how the weather is supposed to be real nice. I completely missed it this year. Oh well, apparently the only really hot area/time was below Bonneville for about a week, and I wouldn't have gone that far upriver anyway. So, I will just pack up the Kwikkies/river anchor/A3 and wait for next spring. Yeah, it will be better next year

I just talked to Fishslayer, who is somewhere around Cathlamet. As of 2 o'clock, they had 3 in the boat, lost two more at the boat, and had a few more on.
'scuse me, I've got to go hitch up the boat.

SH,
Good idea, hitching up the boat, that is. I was out there for my inagural springer trip yesterday, and there are some fish being caught. Neither trolling nor plunking has ever been my idea of a good time, but I took some lessons from my friend who is passionate about chinook fishing. Sitting on my butt in the boat all day is offset by the scenery and watching freighters sailing up the big river. Oh and every once in a while when my line tightened up in that way that spells fish. No adipose fin on either of 'em, so smell that alder smoke on my barbeque. Yum.
Beginner's luck can be a good thing.
Oh, and I saw a sea lion take a salmon from the guy fishing in a boat near me. Very impressive show; not to mention quite disheartening, as those bites come at long intervals. Caused me to land my next fish shortly after that in under 2 minutes. Crank, crank, crank; come here fishy; I'll save you from that big sea lion.
Sincerely,
Salmo g.
