Just received a call from Gloria Sahar. Her husband and long time friend of mine, Jeff Sahar, Olympic Peninsula river fishing guide passed away at 4:30 this morning. Jeff was diagnosed with cancer last year and had been fighting it ever since. He did a great job fighting this disease and returned to fishing as always. He did not let it stop him. On Easter it had progressed to a point that they had to bring in Hospice to finish his life in peace at home. He will be missed by a lot of friends and guests. Jeff and Gloria run the Sol Doc River Lodge and Sahar Guide Services. Jeff was responsible for some of our first huge steelhead, kings, and silvers. My two sons caught their first steelhead with Jeff. He was a great friend to many and me. I will surely miss Jeff. He was truly a great friend and fisherman.

Services will be next Saturday from what I heard last night. I'll put a post up for place and time for those what would be interested in attending.

Our thoughts & prayers go out to Gloria & family.

I found out the hard way, I called them before I did my morning read.

Would you guys what are close to the family Please ask as to what will happen to his guide service.

I'm booked in June and I don't wanna call and ask. Not now (and not never) I think you can understand.

Hey T-Rex I am just guessing that Gloria will have Curtis take you or have another local guide take you. We are hoping that Gloria keeps things going for years to come. We send a lot of customers to stay there ourselves. They are great people and we are going to miss "The Sultan of the Sol Duc" greatly. I am sure that she will be getting a hold of everyone soon. (Guessing)

I am sure that Pat is right on the money. I was hoping to get to talk to Gloria about what is next. I am sure Curtis will fill in. He is an ace too. A couple of years ago we went out with him for one day as Jeff had some other things to do. (My wife and I have been going over there for years on our anniversary for fall kings with Jeff.) He said we could catch some coho too. I told him I wasn't into catching coho and wanted some big Kings. I asked him how big the coho were and he said high teens! We got both kings and coho up to 20 pounds on light tackle. It was a kick. Curtis is as nice a guy as you could ever meet. I sure hope he is permanent at the Sol Duc River Lodge.

Received the call myself on Sunday afternoon. I was just thinking of him a few days ago wondering how he was doing. I was glad to know the man for the past two years. He will always be respected in my eyes. I'm with you Roybns77 his jokes and laughter will be there for ever. From talks prior with Gloria she plans on keeping the lodge going. She said thats what Jeff would want. Curtis will be taking on alot of the trips. Good guy. My prayers go out to Gloria and her family.

One thing about Jeff, He could tell you about every fish you ever caught with him and that was a lot of fish. He put our picture in his brocure holding up 8 huge kings in front of his Sol Duc River Lodge sign. He could tell me about my 21# steelhead, where and when it was caught (1999). He was amazing. I had as much fun with him BSing as I did fishing. he was a riot. He used to have the old cruddy fake teeth and I brought him a set of coke bottle bottom glasses he would wear sometimes. The guy was just pure fun. I told him one time that when he could still get the shakes from excitement after fishing out there since 1963, thiswas the perfect job for him. I learned a lot from Jeff and he will really be missed.

It was a very nice service on Saturday. Lots of Jeff's family, clients, friends, and guides on hand for the service that Chris Ford was kind enough to officiate.

As was mentioned, he's in the best of all fishing holes now!

Yes, the service was nice with about a hundred people there. The service was at their lodge down by the river and his ashes were spread in the Sol Duc. Curtis and Gloria are taking care of the guide service and it will continue on like always. All booking will go through Gloria at the lodge. Curtis is a great fisherman. The Sultan of the Sol Duc is now laid to rest. He will surely be missed.
